Hello Oh Fashionable Ones!

I am new to the Fashion Spot and need your help! We're looking for a fashion designer (especially UK-based) who creates plus size clothes for a fashion shoot - does anyone have any ideas? There was such a furore over Mark Fast - there MUST be some other young designers who make clothes for models who aren't a size 8.

Thanks!

I work with a several "plus" designers and retail sites as clients and for pulling for shoots .... but I don't know any in the UK. All that I know are US based. If you are interested I can send you a list of links to their sites ... just let me know.

Not sure they would ship to the UK for a shoot unless it's for a major magazine or well known website or something along that line ... and probably only if they have customers in the UK so that they publicity would be helpful. Is it guaranteed to be published? Do you have a pull letter from the magazine? Might work for some of the web e-tailers if they ship to the UK.

Hey Bette,

Thanks for your help - as Running in Heels is a European site we're only really interested in using European designers....It's pretty hard to track down any plus size designers over here - they all seem to be in the US!

Thanks anyway

Marina Rinaldi ... try looking for them. It just popped into my head. I know they have a shop in Luca ... so I think that they are actually based in Italy even though they sell all over the world. Pretty high end stuff ....

Oh ... and Ulla Popken is based in Germany, I beleive. At least I know an Austrailian Model who was repped by Wolfe, a German agency and she shot for them a lot when in Germany ... so I can only assume that they are there. Less expensive stuff with them ... not as fashionable.

ETA ... I'm on a roll now: In Spain: http://www.biluzik.com/ I personally know their featured model ... Fluvia, a stunning Brazian girl who now lives in NY, but works all over the world. I'll post more if I think of them

I don't have any contacts with these people, since they are not my clients ... but they all have websites so I'm sure you can reach them.

So ... I did some sourcing for you (that's what I do as a stylist) and found a few more things. Looks like some of these are in the UK and have plus sizes ... not sure if you want retailers or just in house designers ... I usually use a combination of both. Here are some or the ones I suggest you check out, if you haven't already:

http://elenamiro.com/ (Based in Italy ... less expensive that Marina Rinaldi)
www.annharveyfashion.co.uk/ (Carries up to size 22 ... used to have a shop on Oxford, but not sure if it's still there)
http://www.beigeplus.com/ (also has a shop in London, carries major plus lines)
http://www.dorothyperkins.com/ (Carries up to sixe 22)
http://www.yoursclothing.co.uk/ -
http://www.box2.co.uk (they have a shop in London)
http://www.marksandspencer.com/ (who carry plus sizes in addtion to regular sizes
, according to the buzz)

If you are looking for "young designers" in particular ... I'm afraid that, being this remote, I wouldn't know about any. But try LCF and see if they can steer you towards any students who are working to get into plus fashion design ... just an idea ....

Even in the States, most young designers are definitely not interested in plus ....that part of the industry is the "black sheep" of the fashion world, I'm afraid. We have only a few established "plus" designers here ... a mere handful. Most of the plus clothing comes out of bigger corporations ... and it looks like that is the way it is in Europe too, from what I can tell.

WOW! Just spotted all of this...Sorry for taking ages to reply, have been away....

Am going to get in touch with Ulla Popken and with the Spanish brand - just been checking out their site and looks great! I guess you're right about the young designers and was thinking it could be pretty cool to propose as a project for the students at one of the fashion schools in the UK. ***Edited***

I think that's a great idea! We need more up and coming designers to seriously consider working in the plus industry as a viable way to make a good living while doing something they love. We need young designers with modern ideas to provide more trendy and/or fashionalbe clothes for the plus sized consumer.

Anna Scholz is in London and she has been delivering plus size fashion for over ten years with a highly edited site!
