I've seen models wearing pointe shoes and ballet slippers on the catwalk. But I've never seen a girl wearing them outside. What do you think of real ballet shoes?

I like to wear my old (but shiny - B)) pointe shoes to a skirt and stockings or ballet slippers to a jeans. My friends think it's cool. Pointe shoes are beautiful! And they don't hurt as much as people say. ballet slippers might be a little thin, but they are still very comfortable" some other "regular" shoes are much worse!
I don't walk en pointe though. I use pointe shoes like regular shoes! It still looks awesome! Sometime, I go en pointe unconsciously, because I'm used to it from ballet class! and only when i'm standing somewhere, thinking too hard. haha

I remember seeing a picture of Nadja Auermann in black pointe shoes! Sooooo pretty! I need to get some black pointe shoes NOW! :D

what do you guys think of "real" ballet shoes! I think they are cool. They look much better than most expensive designer ballerinas.

Some of my favorite pics:

My pointe shoes are dreadfully uncomfortable to just walk around in everyday, and all my old ones are much too dead to wear anywhere at all. Besides, I'd be to tempted to walk en pointe all day - I desperately need the height. Simple ballet slippers are too plain and thin for my taste (and flat. Did I mention I love height?) It's an interesting idea, though, and I like that you're daring enough to try that on the street. Personally, though, it reminds me too much of little kids running around in tutus saying they want to be a ballerina. But while I may not wear pointe shoes around, I use my old jazz sneakers as sneakers, for the few times I actually need to wear shoes of that sort. I think they look cooler than many other regular pairs, and they support my arch.

i've just seen a thread about dita von teese on thefashionspot.com.
amazing! she's cool. she wears gaynor minden pointe shoes when she performs. those are very comfortable and look best.

i want her purple pointe shoes. truly amazing.

I know exactly what you mean. you could say the same thing about ballet flats tho. pointe shoes look way more non-little-kid-wanting-to-be-a-ballerina likeIMO.

simply gorgeous to the right outfit.

I could never wear my pointe shoes around. It would kill. But ballet shoes and jazz shoes would be so cute, and comfy!

I tried to wear my ballet shoes outside of class but they were incredibly painful. There is little to cushion the soles of your feet from the hard pavement. After about an hour I was limping. :(

I think it's a really cute idea and the pointe shoes in the pics are gorgeous. But for everday use (when not performing, etc.) I think it's a little outrageous. I think this is one of those runway trends that probably doesn't translate well to the average person.

It might be do-able if they added heels, to give the person that en pointe look without actually doing en pointe (and having people think you're a little too obsessed with ballet).

And I agree with *Princesse*; wearing pointe shoes outside of ballet class could make someone look as though they're trying too hard to be a ballerina.

Of course, ballet slippers are way more comfortable than pointe shoes. But pointe shoes are prettier. I like those pointe shoe lookalikes from Repetto though.

The only ballet slippers I wear outisde are leather slippers. You can clean them and they look much better. The canvas ones are not so cool.

I go out in pointe shoes a lot. I even walk en pointe sometimes. I just love the feeling. I make sure that I don't do any harm to my feet and I wear cushion in my shoes. I'm not a pro dancer, but I've dances in pointe shoes for almost 12 years now. My feet are strong.

Strange thing is that one of my friends has "natural pointe shoe feet". Her arch is better than mine and her feet are very very strong. She can walk on her tippy toes without pointes. I let her wear my pointe shoes and she walked in her toes for about two hours! Crazy!

heehee i was expecting one of those pictures to have models in s&m ballet boots ( google it up if you dont know ), but you know what i'm mad at, i always see the cutest character dance shoes and boots and too bad they dont have street soles and why arent designers making them, i especially love the flat boot styles, sometimes i think more and more about getting custom made reproductions of things, too bad i'm poor

oh, geez! those s&m shoes are horrible! i've seen them!

you're right about the character shoes and sneakers. those dance shoes have to be comfortable (for your daily lessons) and pretty (for being on stage). no wonder they look and feel so good. dance sneakers have strange soles. but chracter shoes are OK for walking outside.

i remember that kate bush and stevie nicks (musicians from the 80s) wore pointe shoes all the time. awesome!!! and courtney love (usually i don't like her) wore pointe shoes sometimes. courtney is no dancer, so i thought it was rather strange to see her in ballet shoes. it looked cool and sexy though! for some reason, she could walk en pointe. i envy people being able to walk en pointe naturally.

courtney love also wears ballet slippers in her videos and i've even seen that Baywatch lady shopping in real ballet slippers. Pamela something. Anderson? I forgot!

Gaynor Mindens look so beautiful. They feel really weird to dance in though because of the plastic shank.

I'm used to Gaynor Mindens. But they do feel very different. More comfortable IMO.

I love Freed pointe shoes too.

Sansha sells all-leather ballet slippers again. I was so happy when I found out. I still have my first ballet slippers. Split-sole Sansha leather slippers. They most beautiful shoes ever!!!

I decided to wear my pointe shoes or ballet slippers whenever I can. I'm proud of being a dancer and pointe shoes are the most beautiful shoes to me. I wear them outside and I don't think that they get too dirty or are being worn out too fast. They look cool and 90% of all my friends want pointe shoes too. I'm getting weird looks, but I guess most other girls are just jealous.

I just found out that singer Jennifer Ellison used to be a dancer and she likes to wear her pointe shoes too. Here's a shot from her video (check youtube:(

she looks great in pointes. i love her application on the right shoe. i think i'm going to write something on mine or paint a buterfly on one shoe.

Here's Ashlee Simpson in slippers (I don't like her, but she usually wears nice clothes:(

i can't imagine trying to walk in pointe shoes to be sensible if you are not a trained dancer. it gives you a lot of foot problems even when you are a dancer.

Am I missing something, but aren't you walking on the tip of your toes with pointe shoes? Are those models all ballet dancers, or have experience about it? I've always heard it is extremely painful and hard thing to do.

I love the look though  Ballet shoes and clothes are beautiful.

Yup, it's a really bad idea for your training as a dancer to be taxing your body like that during your rest periods anyhow.

And it's an even worse idea to wear pointe shoes that have been worn out and about on the street for class. I really hope anyone wearing them on the street has seperate pairs devoted just to class time.

As long as you don't actually walk on your toes like that on the street, I think it's adorable. I've seen some from Lacoste and Adidas... but they didn't fit me!!! :(

What about the ballet style shoes with super high heels?

those are terrible! i can't stand them. i prefer ballet slippers or pointe shoes.

i don't think that it's dangerous to wear pointe shoes. as long as you don't alk en pointe, everything should be fine.

gaynor mindens are soft too. but they last long and make your feet look good.
