Scotland Yard last night urged Kate Moss to return to England to face allegations of drug taking.

One of its most senior officers issued an extraordinary statement advising her to return for questioning over claims she snorted cocaine.
The 31- year- old model has refused to return home since a newspaper published pictures of her taking the drug with her then boyfriend Pete Doherty at a recording studio three months ago.

Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner Tarique Ghaffur said he did not want to order a formal extradition but insisted the saga had gone on too long.
Mr Ghaffur, of the Metropolitan Police's specialist crime directorate, said last night: 'We would like to appeal for her to return, see us and tell us her side of the story.

'For everybody's sake, and for her to move on, the sooner she speaks to us the better.

'We wish for the investigation to take its course, and she would be dealt with very fairly and proportionatelyas would be the case with anybody else.'
Officers want to arrest Miss Moss over the allegations and have become increasingly frustrated by her refusal to return to Britain.
Soon after the drugs allegations surfaced in the autumn, she checked herself into a drug rehabilitation clinic in the U.S.

At the time her advisers indicated she would return to London before Christmas. But she has remained abroad.

Mr Ghaffur said he felt he had no option but to make a public statement calling on her to come home and face the music. The drugs inquiry is being handled by a squad under his command. He jointly holds the third most senior rank at Scotland Yard.

Miss Moss, who has a three-year-old daughter, is believed to be staying at her rented home in Los Angeles.

She returned there after a skiing break with her latest lover, 20-yearold songwriter Jamie Burke.

Mr Ghaffur said arrests were expected in the drugs investigation.

'The net on others involved is closing in, and there will be arrests,' he said.
'What we have done so far is conducted searches of the studios where the matter was filmed, in addition to obtaining the full digital recording of the incident, which is currently being closely studied by the investigative team.'
Miss Moss's decision not to cooperate with the investigation is thought to have been prompted by fears of embarrassing publicity.

Police plan to arrest and interview her under caution in the presence of a solicitor. If she admits taking the drug she is likely to escape with a caution. But that would leave her with a criminal record, making it difficult to find work abroad, particularly in the U.S.

From Eonline:

"British police urging Kate Moss to return to the U.K. to answer questions about her alleged cocaine use, but the supermodel is indicating that she plans to permanently settle in Los Angeles."

I'm sorry for her, but, in front of the law, she must be equal to anybody else in a democratic system. She should face the consequences of her actions, regardless of her status as a celebrity. Running away and becoming an outcast would really be dissapointing, at least for me.

I know that this might sound dumb but why do they have to arrest her. I thought you could only be arrested if you had the drugs on you not just seen in photos. Kate was not caught with the drugs a newspaper published the pics a few months later.

I would have thought that they would just interview her to find out where she got the drugs from. She probably didn't even buy them it was probably Pete.

What would the charge(s) be? Does anyone know? and did they arrest and charge Pete cause if so then I missed that. He should go down more than Kate.

If I was going to be arrested then I wouldn't go back either. I'd go live in France. If they won't send Roman back then they aren't going to send her back now are they.

wow... harsh
i wouldnt expect her to go to jail anyways, shell probably just get off with a warning, as the article says

That's hilarious. We strongly urge you to be arrested. She'll be smuggled back in courtesy of McQueen's molded leather corsets, her birkin will accompany shortly after fashion week.

What's she going to do? Skip all the future London shows?

she hasnt done any London shows in ages, i read that she plans to relocate to LA and skip visiting UK..
Kate the fudgitive? :D

She will face police over cocaine scandal with junkie ex-love Pete
By Fiona Cummins Showbiz Reporter
KATE Moss will head back to Britain within a month to face police over her cocaine shame.
The 31-year-old model has agreed to be quizzed by detectives after the Mirror revealed she snorted the drug at a London recording studio. But she is said to "staggered" that officers have gone public.
Met Police boss Tarique Ghaffur urged Kate, who has been working in Los Angeles since August, to return home to "tell her side of the story". A friend said: "She is very happy to co-operate with the police.
"If they were that concerned, they would have extradited her or sent police to see her." Kate's lawyers have spoken to officers and she will be questioned either at home in North London or at a police station. It will then be decided if she should face charges.
One officer said: "For everybody's sake, and for her to move on, the sooner she speaks to us the better."
Kate dumped junkie lover Pete Doherty after the drugs scandal and went into rehab in Arizona. She spent Christmas in Aspen, Colorado, with daughter Lila Grace, three, and new love Jamie Burke, 20.

she will have to give out suppiers' names..
which may turn out quite nasty if not dangerous for her own safety..
not a piece of cake to play with illegal substances

They want her to give names. Don't think this is good for her safety.

To be fair, most people are not called in front of the police for using cocaine. Even amongst celebs, I can think of Elton John, Keith Richards and Robbie Williams, off the top of my head, who've admitted to taking, or been caught on camera taking, cocaine.

This only proves how bad the situation is. Too bad none of them was questioned. They should have been. Talent and success are not tickets to a legal- restrictions- free life. At least they shouldn't be.

I'm not sure about the UK but in Canada it's only illegal to have bought, sold or been found with it on you. So basically unless they can prove Kate paid for it, they can't really do anything.

Kate Moss: I'll Come Back When I'm Ready

Kate: I'll come back when I'm ready

By Nicole Lampert and Stephen Wright, Daily Mail

Kate Moss will defy police demands to return to Britain to face allegations of drug-taking, insisting she is too busy working.

Look here too!

The 31-year-old is modelling in the U.S. and will come back only when her diary allows it, a source said yesterday.

If police want to force her back sooner, they would have to speak to her lawyers, one of the model's aides insisted.

On Wednesday, one of Scotland Yard's most senior officers issued a statement urging her to return home to answer allegations that she had snorted cocaine.

Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner Tarique Ghaffur said: 'We would like to appeal for her to return, see us and tell us her side of the story.
'The investigation is progressing very well and the Met is closing in on those who are behind the supply of drugs.

'But we have got to speak to Kate. I am making an appeal for Kate to come back to this country.'

Miss Moss has been abroad since a newspaper published photographs of her taking the drug with her then boyfriend Pete Doherty at a recording studio three months ago.

Police want to talk to the model about the allegations and have become increasingly frustrated at her refusal to return to Britain.

Soon after the pictures were published, she checked herself into a drug rehabilitation clinic in the U.S.

At the time her advisers said she would be home before Christmas, but instead opted to spend it skiing in Aspen, Colorado, where she showed off her new boyfriend - aspiring singer Jamie Burke.

It is thought she is keen to avoid the embarrassment of an arrest when she does come home.

And, even if she escapes with a caution, she fears it could affect her chances of working abroad, particularly in the U.S.

Miss Moss is now believed to be in Los Angeles, where she is renting a house with her threeyearold daughter.

Last night, a source close to the model said she still intends to return.
'She will come when she has time but she has two or three photoshoots to do first,' the source said.

'The police know who her lawyers are and if they want to force her to come back they will have to speak to them rather than the newspapers.

'You do have to ask yourself why, when there are so many terrible crimes out there, they seem to be concentrating on Kate Moss.

'You also have to ask herself whether, after this statement, she could ever have a fair trial.
'Kate has every intention of returning to Britain, which is her home, when she has a gap in her diary.'

don't you just love assumptions.

i don't know why you assume Peter gave her the drugs-it's well known in industry circles that Kate's done Class A drugs for years-she did them before she ever met Peter. also, Peter hasn't been charged, because guess what-he's not seen snorting coke on the tape! imagine that. i bet you didn't evne know that, did you..you just assumed.

also, i don't know why you think Peter should go down "more than Kate"-why is that? he didn't even snort drugs on the film but even if he did, what would make him more deserving of jail than her?

For some odd reason your quote seems funny to me....

I can't imagine someone like her in jail. Oh well, I don't think there is any way they could arrest her anyway. Snorting coke is not illegal. Posessing coke is. (Or at least that is what my Mock Trial captain told me...)
