Does anybody else have a fear of getting up in front of the class and giving your presentation??

I get really scared, my voice shakes and tightens up that I feel like I cannot breath and lose my breath. I also find it difficult to swallow and my necks feels so stiff I cannot move normally...

I worry what people in the class think and feel that I'm being humilated...:ninja:

Does anyone have any tips about helping my fear? Basically it is all up in my neck and throat that tightens up...

Also if anyone also have expierences in this kind of situation, please share them...:)

^ I've made some presentations already where I stand like a zombie and have fear in my eyes...I feel so stupid..

Its strange because im normally an obviously shy person but when i present people always say " you didnt seem at all nervous" when in fact i was petrified but it doesnt show. The way i get over my shyness is i pretend th people arent there it really helps. practising in a mirror really helps too. also try to learn what you need to say but have que cards to back you up. Plus if its a topic you really believe strongly about its alot easier in my experience. And if you faje confidence people will think you are! i know this isnt probably much help but its what i do..:flower:

^ Same here. I'm so shy but ppl say i would be a good teacher cause i do presentations well.

I think it takes time and practice to loose your fear and first of all believe that you can do it. Don't create problems before it starts. Say anything happens you don't care (i know it's hard but try). A little "i don't care" always helps. I can be so nervous i almost faint or vomit.

I used to be like that when I first entered university, since I didn't do alot of presentations in high school. Throughout the past 3 years in university I've done alot of presentations, and now i seem so confident when I present. I've also presented in a conference which was a great step for me to overcome my fear of presenting infront of people.

You should practice very well before a presentation, and make sure you know ALOT of what you're going to say (like memorize it). It's normal to feel a little bit nervous before presenting. Also, put in mind that the people you're presenting to do not know what you're gonna say, so if u miss anything don't panic and just complete whatever is left cuz they wont know u've missed something.

If I remember more tips I'll post them later .. Hope this helps =)

A few tips:

1) The audience is on your side (in university at least haha). If you're one of the first presenters, chances are people are so nervous about their own presentations that they won't be scrutinising your everying move. What I'm trying to say is, don't afraid to screw up. It's ok and the world will not end B)

2) Know your stuff very well. If you know your stuff, that's one less thing to worry about! Write down roughly what your going to say, but in a manner that you would actually say it. Read it out loud to yourself. Does the presentation sound natural? You definitely do NOT want to sound like you're reading from a textbook. I find it useful to write down linking phrases as well like "so what this basically boils down to...and now we move on to..." stuff like that.

3) Take a few deep breaths.

4) Again, the world will not end if you screw up. Relax!

5) Relax and move around a bit during the presentation. It helps you loosen up I find. But do not pace back and forth like a caged animal.

6) Practice beforehand in front of a test audience to get more comfortable speaking in front of a crowd.

Also don't wear super high heels unless you're absolutely comfortable in them. I was doing a presentation once where I almost fell flat on my face!

don't look them straight in the eye, that might help (just look above their heads ) and then u slowly do look at them if u want when u become more confident....

walk around

have notes in small pieces

knoe yourstuf well!!!

relax, but don't try hard to relax, just imagine noone is really there \

don't worry if you stuff up the first few time or more, alot of ppl find it hard! it's meant to be the thing that ppl fear the most i read! don't get too mad at yourself .
just keep practising and practising....you'll get there....think of it as a positive thing, not something to be afraid of!

p.s: it may seem u are messing up more than u reali are, but most likely it isn't as bad as u think....

goodluck =)
