Proactiv

It worked ok until i stopped. Within a day i was completely broken out! The stuff is like liquid crack. my face was so addicted! When i stopped for good, i took better care of my skin (taking vitamins, eating healtheir, drinking more water...) and my skin completely cleared up.

I feel like being harsh saying this, but some people do need products to clear up their skin. As lovely as it sounds, not everyone will be able to take care of their skin perfectly natural in this busy world. So yeah, and acne are actually DNA related too. and only 3% of population are blessed with none acne gene. :) So yeah. I belong to the other 97%

I'm a little suprised that it doesn't seem to have worked out for so many people. It works wonderfully on my skin and I've only been using it since Sunday! I use it twice a day, and it has never burned my skin or caused it to itch intensly or dry. In fact it have made my skin feel even smoother and healthier looking! Do you think this will continue or will it dry out my skin over time? It's really cleared up my skin but I don't want to continue using it if it will harm my skin along the line...

^ see thats what it was like for me in the beginning and then 2 mths later it began to dry me out slightly and with each month it got worse and worse, but it may just be my skin, my acne is genetic so my situation may be diff than urs, but i hope it works better for you than with me.

Never in my life have I had acne, I only get an occasional zit, but I decided about a year ago to try Proactiv and it works incredibly well. I get a zit once a month, tops. I think it either works great for individuals or works terribly. My sister's friend tried it and it made her skin peel. It was an awful result! I think maybe try an acquaintance's Proactiv before purchasing it for yourself.

If you never had acne in your life how do you know using the Proactiv was doing anything at all? And if you never had acne before but you use Proactiv and you're getting one zit a month doesn't that mean that Proactiv is causing acne?

I ordered a sample of Proactive. I can't wait to try it! My cousin (my age) swears by the stuff. I've read mixed reviews. My skin isn't too sensitive or dry (I have normal skin), so I'm hoping I'll get good results from it. I'll let you know how it goes! :flower:

^ I think no product is going to work wonderfully for everyone because everyone's skin is different. It has worked great for some people.

yeah I agree that its going to have different results on different people. it didnt do a thing for my sister, but made my skin completely clear.

I had moderate acne and used proactive about a year and a half ago, and the results were amazing. My skin was flawless and the compliments came rolling in. Only, after about a year of using it, I noticed that its effectiveness wasn't as admirable. Eventually, it just stopped working and I discontinued using it.
Now after trying so many other things I just gave up and started using Cetaphil for about 3 months and my skin was pretty average. Not clear, but nothing like it used to be.
However just recently, I decided to purchase pro active again and give it a try. It's been about 7 days of using it, and my skin hasn't improved and in fact is getting worse in areas with larger pimples but improving in other areas >.<
I don't understand what's happening, but I hope with a bit more use things will get better.
Has anyone had this experience??

is anyone else allergic to benzoyl peroxide (the main ingredient in proactiv)? I am. That is why I had to stop using it a few years ago. But guess what, my parents have forced me to use it again because they did not believe that I was allergic to it. I now have a HUGE oozy crusted over welt on the side of my face. Can we say a unnessecary trip to the dermatologist now? *sigh*

Awww! You poor baby :(

Proactiv again

I stopped using Proactiv sometime last year because it basically stopped working for me. Ever since then, I havent been able to keep my skin under control and now its worse then ever. I desperately want to start using proactiv agan because my skin was basically perfect when I used it. Do you think it will ever start to work for me again?

Thank you for this thread, but it may get merged with the original Proactiv thread FYI.

I must say it's stopped working for me too. I have dark spotted scars on my face from where I used to pick at my zits. The health of my skin is better, but I see no problem pimples going away. I have mild acne, but nothing is working for me either.

I used to use Proactiv. At first it worked.. my skin got clear so I stopped using it, and just washed my face with water, and make-up remover at night.
Anyway, I started breaking out again, and I started using it. My skin did not like it one bit ! I had to stop using it as it sensitised my skin. It made me break out even more so I had to see a dermatoligist about it.
Anyway, my skin is better now, I don't use any cleansers, just a make up remover and I just put a small dab of moisturizer at night.

Proactiv burned my fair skin to a crisp! And I was only using it once a day, at night.. I really had high hopes for these products, with no luck. Since coming off of it about a week ago, I've been using a gentle cleanser with microbeads, and an oil-free moisturizer. This seems to be working so far, I guess the simpler the better in regards to my skin. I find taking Omega-3 capsules in the morning and before bed improved my skin drastically as well!

hi, i have been using proactive for the last week - i can't tell a major difference but i want to keep using it for at least a month. my problem is that my skin gets SO dry and it almost peels! so gross. i have used the proactiv mask and it doesn't help at all.

i am thinking of buying a moisturizer to wear over the proactiv moisturizer - has anyone done this to get rid of the dryness that proactiv leaves you?

what face moisturizer do you recommend????
