promotion ceremony dress?

my 8th grade promotion ceremony will be held on June 22nd.

this is the first promotion ceremony that i'll be attend in America, so i'm not very knowledgeable.

the paper says, "girls are encouraged to wear nice dresses", but i don't know what kind of dress i have to wear.

so would you explain to me what kind of dress i have wear, and

recommend few stores in NJ that i can actually go and buy a nice dress?

i need your help as soon as possible, thanks!

A nice party dress...don't wear a puffy prom dress with a train or something...wear a nice party/cocktail dress and spice it up with a nice hair do, make up, shoes, & accesories.
