Finally, something daring in a sea of mediocrity! Awful styling, looks a bit like Cynthia Pickles, but I'll take it. Love the set design, this is the McDean which I've not seen in ages.
I will definitely watch out for anything Lily Sumner related.
Mall-fashion circa 1983 propped up against cliché student art is daring, Benn...? …Do they truly have nothing fresh to contribute but this tiresome ongoing “irony"?
every purple issue in quite sometime has had an embossed drawing / artwork, usually by an artist that's featured on the inside.
not their best cover, i'm not sure i like it at all, but purple's the only magazine i still buy regularly so i'll get this.
also loooking forward to the houellebecq's feature, that won't be messy at all

You must give them props though. Fashion photography is so staid, correct and lazy at the moment, even indies feel the need to go basic. McDean have always been a man for colour. And it's interesting to see how he applied all of that into the backdrop.
The latest batch of indies seem to be delving into Seventeen's vault for inspiration. So from where I'm sitting, if you put this cover next to Pop, ID, Dazed, or even your beloved Interview (knowing full well the unremitting hard-on you have for Baron)....I'd go for this. At least it's daring to be different, even if it is just for the sake of it. That's how change start.....
