This is probably really stupid but I cannot for the life of me work a curling iron! I just bought a brand new one and no matter what I do it will not curl my hair. The sad part is I have naturally curly hair and when ever I go to a salon they can do it perfectly. I really want to wear my hair straight with long loose curls on top but I cant figure out how to. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You just have to practise... Try different kinds of ways and you will learn the best way... :flower:

It all depends on the quality of your curling iron, that is, how hot the barrel gets.

I would recommend winding the hair around the barrel tightly with your finger, as opposed to using the wand itself to wind your hair.

Clamp it, and hold, touching the wound hair lightly, and when it feels quite hot, remove the wand.

It has also been recommended to me to then wind the hot curl around your finger until it cools, to hold the curl, although I'm really not sure of the validity of that statement.

Good luck! :flower:

To get an Ashley Olsen 'curl' I use a 1" - I'm sure you could alternate pieces between a 1" and a 3/4", also leave some pieces straight.

i'm really partial to my conair ceramic curling iron..and yeah, i'd go with a 1 inch...

Depending on the look you want...

I love the look of a double barrell curling iron. I used it once for a wedding and I got compliments galore. It sort of looked like a cross between large crimps and loose curls.

Do you have any pictures of the effect a double barrell curling iron gives? I once saw a triple barrell and I questioned how it worked. My hair is wavy and thick and I keep trying to get the "loose curl" look. I never can do it. :(

Would you suggest I get a double barrell curling iron? If so, do you know where I could purchase one?

I don't usually curl my hair anymore but I do have a big barrel curling iron. You can also get a spiral curling iron that is nice.

I have very long, straight hair, and use a Conair 3/4' barrel iron. I get nice, spiral curls, that look natural and last and tons of compliments. I'm happy with it.

curling iron?

I'm wondering about a hair tool that is like 3 curling irons in one, with 3 diff. cylinders and you use it to make your hair wavy? I saw it on the real world..and other shows on tv and I was just wondering what it's called and where you could get one! thankss :D (haha I know it's a stupid description..)

Curling my hair

How on earth do you use a curling wand???!!! ive been trying for about a year and all that i can do is kink the ends of my hair (which is long and very thick).
Is there a special technique that i dont know about?
Please help!

I've had the same problem for as long as I can remember. The main problem with me is that I am afraid of hot tools, because I was burned badly by a curling iron when I was little and a family member was curling my hair because it was some holiday where we usually dressed up. Then there was the other time when it was also being curled by someone else with a bristled curler that got stuck in my hair and had to be cut out. That's why the only curling irons I own are the smooth barreled ones and I don't even use them I use hot rollers which I'm better with.

I would suggest that people who have trouble with curling irons might try rollers instead. When I kept my hair shorter I use to use...I think they were Conair 1.5" or maybe 2" hot rollers I think they came in a set of 5 or 6 and they gave my hair big & soft wavy curls. :flower: They were purple and I'm 99% sure they still make that same set.
