Appearing in a variety of shows this season, quilted fabrics seem to have never entirely left the scene as a quintessential winter staple- except this time, designers are taking them a couple of steps further, sailing away from the often recurrent sportswear undertone and pairing it with delicate ruffles, jewels and exotic prints while molding it too into unexpected garments such as skirts and cocktail dresses.

I just love the way Clémence Poésy wore her quilted jacket last year so I figured it could be posted too..

Good catch Mullet.

Quilted fabrics are usually a miss for me, I think it's the stiffness that comes with it that I don't like. For outerwear that works fine (and I'm oddly drawn to the Giles jackets), but for tops and skirts and stuff it looks bulky.

I think Dries's last fall collection was a big influence on this trend. glad to see its continuing and getting even more inventive. those chanel dresses are beautiful and I would love to get a chance to see the gareth pugh up close. so cool...

Maybe the trend is moving towards generally , relief fabrics..
ie. jacquards,
quilts

At Prada and CDG and YY there were woven patterns on cloth.. geometrics like diamonds and squares
and Marni & Jil Sander had a lot of coats with knobbly yarns (like carpets and tough upholstery)

When the light hits on it it's like they are quilted
Both this and real quilts would work for insulation imo
since the spaces in between the insides of the cloth trap warm air

I only like quilted fabric when it is thin...
& the quilts are small-ish looking...
Love the Givenchy, Y-3, Dries & Rue du Mail looks/pieces...
I'd only like the Giles in editorials - not IRL as they look very uncomfy..
I am thinking that I'd love nothing more than a blk. nylon, thinly quilted mini skirt...
Hmm....

Thanks for the thread, Mullet!

I think it's a great way to give shape to a fabric as seen in Giles.. also it does fit well with the arcitectual-trend =)

my favourite is actually the subtle use of it in the chanel collection
