To fête its latest perfume, Love, Chloé (coming this fall to a beauty counter near you), the fashion house did not just take over the neo-eighteenth-century mansion that is home to the starred restaurant Apicius. Instead, they refurnished, re-carpeted, and redecorated the place entirely with a retro-seventies vibe and the edible colors—honey, toffee, caramel—seen on the Fall runway. And what better backdrop for Raquel Zimmermann's entrance, in a convertible honey-gold Mercedes with Roman Coppola at the wheel?

Zimmermann alighted, looking like a latter-day Lauren Hutton (or was it Faye Dunaway?) and sporting a crocodile Emma bag (sad to note: not launching until November). "She's like an old-school film star, the way she tosses a cape," noted Chloé designer Hannah MacGibbon. In Roman Coppola's first fragrance spot, Zimmermann glides through the streets of Paris in that convertible by day, graces Le Grand Colbert by night, and generally looks like the haute-est Charlie girl ever born. The model, meanwhile, sidestepped the obvious film question, saying, "I love what I'm doing now, but never say never!"

I prefer her with longer hair. Nonetheless, she still looks stunning. I can't wait for the full commercial to popup. From that little sneak peak, it looks like it wont disappoint at all and Raquel made the commercial even better. I can't think of anyone else who could fit the part.

New interview, it's in this week's Istoé Gente. Raquel is so sweet here, she talks about her childhood

Living in New York for eight years now with her boyfriend, the photographer Ruy Sanchez Blanco, Raquel was happy to realize that, during this trip, brazilians were recognizing her on the streets: “People stopped me to take pictures at the airport and I thought that was cute!” she said. In this interview, the 27 year old talks about family, childhood, the beginning of her career and the difficulties to become one of fashion's most important names.

When did you realize you could be a model?
When I was 14 I used to like to go rollerskating with my friends. I didn't think about being a model. I was the ugly duck at school: skinny with no boyfriend. Back then, Shirley Malmann was working a lot abroad and people would say I looked like her. After that, I went to an agency in Porto Alegre and did a portfolio. Then, I came to Sao Paulo and it all started.

Did you think you were pretty?
When they did my hair and make up for the first time, I liked my look. “Wow, guys. I don't look like myself. How's that possible?”, I said. That's when I realized it. I've always had many nicknames for being tall: bambu, giraffe, those things. I wouldn't get angry, but it was a bit humiliating and that happened until I was 14.

What did you want to be as an adult?
I loved music and took guitar classes with my friend when I was 6. It was Raquel and Renata: the couple Ra and Re. We used to make up songs and it was so cool! We would walk around with our guitars that were bigger than we were. We used to play musica sertaneja (kind of country music). “Pense em mim, chore por mim, liga pra mim, não, não liga pra ele”. We used to play at school, in front of all the other kids.

What did you like to do when you were a kid?
I used to sing at the church's choir, play the guitar and I was a girl scout. I was the girl who used to hold the flag in front of the line. Actually, I wanted to be a ballet dancer. I took a year of ballet. But I was always the one in the back. I remember a presentation and there was everybody and a giraffe: me!

Did you parents support you at the beginning?
My parents were a bit against me being a model. They thought I should finish school, and I think they were right. I studied until the 8th grade. They wanted me to be a teacher. And for me, that was a good idea back then.

What were the initial difficulties?
I've been to a lot of castings in my life, some that would take hours and hours. When I went to Japan for the first time, I couldn't speak english and I would communicate by mime. I don't know how I did it. I was really scared, and whenever I called my mom, she would cry. It was tough, but I wanted to do that and travel the world.

Have you ever considered giving up?
Once, when I was in Milan, I went to my first casting to a Giorgio Armani show and there were 200 girls, all tall, beautiful and thin. The line was around the block and it was cold. I was tired and I really missed my family. At that time, I thought: “Raquel, do you really want to do this?” That's when I said to myself: ‘No, Raquel. You will wait in this line, you're doing the casting and you're booking this show!”. And that's what happened. My first show in Milan was for Giorgio Armani. I'll never forget. Armani himself chose me.

Where do you get this strenght and determination?
I think from my grandfather, the father of my father. His name's Elemar he's still alive, he's almost 100 years old. He would always say to me: “Imagine living in Brazil 100 years ago? Everything was difficult and I never gave up on anything”. Our family has german ancestry and I think I got this from him. Germans have that, of being focused. My parents are sweet and they both work a lot.

How's your relationship with your parents?
My mom was a seamstress and my father used to work with leather. I've never worked with them, but I liked having my own stuff. My parents taught me not to spend money on silly things. Did you know I used to sell bijou back then? I wanted a radio with a CD and they didn't have the money to buy it. It was a Avon moment! I sold bijou from door to door and raised money for a whole year. My mother still has the radio at home.

What is the secret to have a successfull career, being considered an icon and getting compliments for your wardrobe?
When I started modelling, a lot of people told me I had to dress in a way I didn't like and I've never accepted that. It's funny, I don't like to wear skirts and little dresses. My wardrobe is filled with jeans, jackets and boots. Just now, when I went to Hawaii, is that I bought some jeans skirts, more girly. I think that's the good side of fashion, you having the freedom of being who you are. When I was a kid, my mom would make some cute little dresses for me. I used to have a long blue dress that was gorgeous, but I was never too worried about that. I've always been rock and roll, what I really liked was Legião Urbana.
