I was sitting in my hometown, watching our 300th aniversary parade, and all of these revolutionary war guys had the stocking holsters below their knees to keep their knee socks up. I thought that looked pretty cool, so I hopped online and ordered a pair for like 5 dollars, and then started wearing them around New York. Then, I see in the Diesel store window that the mannequin has them! These straps create the illusion of a boot- interesing if you've never seen them. Check it out!

sweetie..it's cool that you're wearing them...but you definitely didn't start it...stylists have been using those in shoots since the days of the flood...

especially in italian vogue...lots of peter lindbergh shoots...part of that whole androgyny thing he always does...you can buy them on st mark's place at the sock man... :flower:

oh yeah...and i believe they're called garters...no?...

I don't get it either. Garters? Like...garter belt? LOL! Certainly I'm confused, no?

Edit:

Leather Garters
Narrow black leather band with brass buckle. Just the thing to keep your stockings from falling down. Also adds a nice finishing touch when wearing knee breeches.

very cute...i like all of the ones posted... :D :flower:

thanks for bringing it up juliana...great accessory....very underappreciated...

ok lemme get this... its basically a leg bracelet... not the normal garters we are all used u (in primary school i had to hav elastic garter for my long socks, such a pain as socks normally ended up around ankles after play time.. memories..)

how are u wearing these? what with? stockings? tights? socks (which kind?)? bare legs?
where are u wearing them on ur legs?
and also how did diesel style them?

i dont find this incredibly exciting as a fashion moment, but im still interested

You can wear them over knee socks, or bare legs, right below the knee, as shown on the last photo. Diesel styled them over knee socks.

I think they have potential...as long as they are like the last ones posted. :D

Those are interesting, but something that has my attention as a great accessory for Fall/Winter is spats. These are great for both men and women, and could be vary versatile going from very formal to just playful.

These are the more formal variant. Now there is the risk of looking too "gangster" or that you may have wandered away from the rest of the marching band. Obviously updating them in novel fabrics would rid them of this stigma, giving them a more modern look. Spats in various traditional suit woolens like a dark herringbone or houndstooth for instance. A more playful take on the classic would be in a distressed white leather, or a more formal look would have them in luxurious satin.

Now these are more in the military tradition of spats which today could be worn with anything even jeans. Once again these can be updated from the drab wool to something like a plaid or tartan, or even a modern color. Different leathers and fur, real or faux, would also be an option. A Missoni or Pucci pattern could be nice for the ladies. Paisley or other tie like patterns would be a unique twist for the men, sort of like these (but with much better shoes).

Please just don't buy them out of a bag. . .

Gaitors are the same thing as spats. Boot/shoe covers. It can cover as little as up to the ankle,or can go all the way up to the knee. I have made spats before as part of a cos-play outfit. They are not difficult to make.
