Richard Nicoll F/W 08.09 London

i continue to think that he is THE one to watch in london...

would be great to take a closer look to really see what is going on with everything...
thanks for posting all of it scott...
:flower:..

anyone know who styled the show>?

Just superb...the sheer and matte effect on most of the looks is well placed and well executed...thanks for posting.

Sarah Mower made me laugh with this review, it's rather a wonderful evolution from his SS08 to be precise, focused and reassuring. Just because it's not from Marc Jacobs (hence he didn't even have an inspiration) it's automatically problematic:yuk:

style.com
LONDON, February 13, 2008 – There's a wisdom in maintaining a certain thread of continuity between collections, especially when you're a young designer trying to impress your identity on the world. That idea must have been at the front of Richard Nicoll's mind when he followed up his Amish-organza-themed hit Spring show with more of the same: large, squared-off collars on dresses with semi-transparencies built into double-layered skirts. The clothes looked easier to wear than last season's more theoretical work, and there was no harm in showing them. The remaining question was whether Nicoll could complete the thought, or make it branch off interestingly in another direction—the sort of imaginative narrative that makes a fashion show a satisfying thing to watch.

The answer is, he didn't. The rest of the collection was a bumpy ride with scant discernable connection between looks, shapes, and intentions. Not that there weren't bits and pieces that looked strong: a couple of businesslike blazers with short skirts, a navy cashmere shawl wrapped over soft pants and a blouse, and a long midnight-blue chiffon shirtdress with a bow at the neck, to name a few. Had he just concentrated on building off those looks, the collection would've seemed far more resolved.

someone should just fire Sarah. not because I like this and she doesn't. but even the most random positive reviews, she just goes to the dumbest, most irrelevant and redundant points of everything. I've learned just to skip all the text once I see who signed it. :argg:

i agree mullet. what is wrong with sarah? firstly, did she just have her eyes dilated or something? that's the most proposterous assesment i could read. she and suzy menkes are really strange these days in their reviews. it just seems like pure rambling coming from them.

I'm sorry but i hate it... i think its all so awkward and dated.... Sorry...

The styling is so inspiring...
Such lovely sensibilities...
And all the androgynous bits, too...
I love that he is still well into his exploration of sheer fabrics...
He does them so well, rly...
He is going to do so amazingly well...thankfully!

Thanks for posting, Scott...!

I totally agree.. Sarah should be jobless, I know it senseless to comment it in the RN thread but her review about Sinha-Stanic its completely bias and unfair... sincerely I feel quite ashamed for her.

By the way RN was a great show, he is finding his path ...

Not exactly my taste, but it's undeniably chic.

And I never read style.com's reviews. They're so incredibly biased and nonsensical. They're worthless tbh.

Felt like reviving this... I still adore this collection almost 10 years later. Richard Nicoll at his best and one of the highlights of his career imo. So so sad..

*eta. totally random but I remember doing this assignment in school a year after this was shown, which consisted of a drawing with some sort of ink, I can't even remember the technique, but I used one of the looks from this collection (first one in this post) and I got the highest grade lol.. 10% me, 90% the amazing palette and silhouettes of this.
