Roberto Cavalli S/S 2015 : Nicki Minaj by Francesco Carrozzini

Julia for Givenchy
Madonna for Versace
Nicki for Roberto Cavalli

Are there any campaigns left for the models at all? Although I would want to see more of Givenchy.

Absolutely! And this coming from the guy who vowed never to use celebrities for his brand. None of these women are actually relevant to the contemporary fashion scene, nor do they embody the actual collections (Julia, perhaps).

The actual shots aren't that bad, but for a main campaign it's exceedingly underwhelming. I don't associate Nicki Minaj with high fashion. She's quite vile actually and doesn't belong in this industry!

Why is Nicki "vulgar"? Because she has curves and owns it? Because her music and lyrics aren't "ladylike" enough for your taste? There are plenty of celebrities who are actually way more vulgar--many of whom you wouldn't be complaining about, ironically.

Nicki looks great here, the clothes look great, and that's what we should be focusing on.

None of these words make sense. NONE.

I expected something messy and super tacky but this is quite nice. About the vulgar discussion, I never found her as a definition of vulgar, she's always struck me as a comical person, yes that Anaconda video left me speechless but I'd rather see Nicki rather than J.Lo which I found more desperate and vulgar compared to her.

What?...You'd rather see something that was made @ the doctors in operating room then something real?.........

Nicki is fake from head to toe her ***, her face, her hair, her skin tone, her boobs etc etc- That itself is vulgar. Just lol @ RC using her thinking she'll do any good for the brand.

Do they honestly believe that their customer is aware of Nicki Minaj? If she was fronting a brand aimed at teeny boppers she would be an obvious choice, but for a high fashion italian label? Nope.

The images themselves are not vulgar per se but they do leave a bad taste, she's one of the most unlikeable celebs out today. Out of all the celebs out there why her? I never associated her with RC nor do I think I have ever seen her in one of his dresses. Was Beyonce not available?

The styling is meh.... For some reason I remembered this as a great collection but I'm not getting that from the campaign. The hair is horrendous, put her in long wavy black hair, the background is annoying.

Roberto Cavalli may be a high end fashion brand, but it is the very definition of vulgar, and tacky. Nicki Minaj is a perfect fit for this campaign. Puhleeze, she is not sullying the house of Cavalli.:rolleye:

She's a beautiful woman, but aside from the first shot, I find the images sort of meh, and the wigs are horrible. A more interesting photographer, and concept, could have really made this a memorable campaign.

For real. Has crusading for celebrities gotten worse in recent times? The points made in their defense seem to stray further and further from logic with each discussion I read.

I can imagine that there are many reasons why a person would find Nicki Minaj vulgar that have nothing to do with some underlying issue with her "owning" those artificial curves and it is quite a leap to suggest that one doesn't have a problem with more vulgar celebrities. As someone who has enjoyed her music in the past (and music that may be considered raunchier), I don't see what is wrong if someone did have a problem with the vulgarity of it. Are people not supposed to be offended these days? Is it always going to be a matter of someone being worse?

I think this question is worth repeating:

What does it take to even be considered vulgar in today's society?

Especially if it's always going to be passed off as this new brand of "confidence".

I also don't think that she is defining anything. When it comes to women in hip-hop, having a sexual image is nothing new. Is Nicki really doing anything that Foxy Brown, Lil' Kim or Trina hasn't? Mainstream artists always get more credit for things that others before them have already done and before anything is said, being mainstream has little to do with talent.

And seriously, bringing up Madonna? She's been criticized for like 30 years for having a vulgar image, deservedly or not. It was just last week or so that the Interview thread was filled with comments about her being pathetic for still baring her breasts at her age. And it's not like the comments in the Versace thread are any kinder, even with the absence of the word vulgar.

Maybe some people just don't think that Nicki Minaj is a good match with fashion, even for a brand like Cavalli. Frankly, I agree. Her editorials just don't work for me. I am tired of tacky celebrities (and even non-tacky ones) being shoehorned into every crevice of the industry. The celebs are desperate for status + credibility and the designers are desperate for instagram followers. Indeed, a circus.

These are actually some of the nicest pics that I've seen of Nicki yet this just seems like an odd choice and doesn't even feel like a campaign.

Honey, there's nothing vulgar about having something "done" with your body. I don't think it's fair to judge someone as someone who's vulgar just because he/she has had something done. If that is one of the criteria on how to be vulgar, then almost everyone who's had something surgically done is vulgar.

I'm not defending her and saying that she's not vulgar - because that depends on one's perception of her. All I'm saying is that I don't find anything vulgar about being "fake" (surgically).

The funny of the photos in 6 photos of 9 , she have the eyes close

Nicki looks amazing, glad to see her in this! She is beautiful!

Nicki looks absolutely gorgeous in this campaign and I'm glad to see her fronting this. She is an incredibly strong and smart woman, who has achieved a lot. And no, I don't always like her style and sometimes it can be a bit tacky, but she is far from the only celebrity.

The idea is not bad but the whole looks like an edito. Nicki was not the right choice for a campaign she looks rather liveless on those shots. it looks like they picked an artist on fire and with the "vavavoom" aesthetic thinking she would fit in. But that is not the case and it is a big NO for me.

Not bad but I wish they had done a bit more with Nicki. A better concept perhaps.

no pictures with logo??? strange...
