Snarky comment aside, I think these designers are a relic from another time. In this day and age of Y/Project, Alessandro Michele’s Gucci, Pierpaulo’s Valentino, Simone Rocha and Molly Goddard, these home sewing projects the Mulleavy sisters carted out are not going to cut it. Their brand of whimsical, fairy princess, sugar pop Demi-couture confectionary have been taken up and mastered elsewhere by far better and more equipped talents. These two were never that good too begin with and though made by hand, their clothes are a far cry from couture. They look more like they came out of a home economics sewing class than an atelier. As Glinda the good witch once said, “Be gone!”

Hm yeah, you guys may think it's ugly as hell, a leftover from Hedi's last collection for Saint Laurent, the horrific 80s getup your mom doesn't want you to see, what Forever 21 does for Christmas, but if you actually had the chance to touch this, to feel the superb quality, the flawless cut, the excellent textures, the out-of-this-world proportions, you would get it.. (but they only make these artworks for friends, so you won't).

bringing consistency from other threads into this one, you're welcome..

This is terrible we all agree. That being said I cannot criticize someone who still try to make a living with their passion. It is all self-financed, done and promoted. I'm not gonna drag them for living their dream until the end as the boat is already sinking.

I've seen and touched and inspected their clothes on the rack at Bergdorf Goodman and I am dead serious... they were the most poorly made garments in the whole entire store (yes, I looked at every garment in the entire store inside out, including contemporary on the 5th floor). It honestly, truly looked like it was stitched together at home on a domestic Singer machine by an unskilled high school student. I swear I am not exaggerating. I was simply shocked any designer or proper business would deliver clothes of such low quality. I could not fathom who would buy such poorly crafted garments at those prices or what on earth the BG merchants must have thought once they were delivered. I would have had a meltdown.

Maybe they had a bad season with production. Maybe they've recently changed it up and improved. Maybe you and I simply see things differently, but I must respectfully disagree with you on the mater of their "superb quality" and "flawless cut."

^ oh I believe you.. I don't know anything about Rodarte.

But I'll agree in disagreeing with tactility trumping visuals..

I used to love them but now this brand is so dead.

That sounds like one long shopping trip.

I'm honestly baffled as to how many stocklists they still have/how much they sell. I don't think any store here in London buys their clothes (no wonder) so I can't speak for the quality of their garments, but the wedding cakes I see here matched with the prices tags I assume they have...surely there can't be more than a few dozen people willing to buy these on Net-a-Porter's clearance sale?

God they're approaching Siriano levels of design with this one. Super tacky and forgettable.

I know people who have Rodarte from their earlier work and the quality is quite poor for a luxury brand. As in beads tarnishing and sequin a popping off after a wear it two. Also after a few years in good storage the seams are falling apart. All in all, the garments I've seen have more of a home made vibe to them than limited run.

Were they better designers before the CDFA hyped them up?

Like Robin Givhan wrote a while ago on the Washington Post, they are industry darlings that nobody wants to wear and bit of a mystery on how they can still be around. Considerations on the poor manufacturing standards aside, they still don't seem to have any idea of what a business plan is (unless they thought their Rodarte white tees would sell like hot cakes...), which can be excusable if you are fresh out of school but not from two designers well over their first decade in the fashion arena.
This sounds more like another prove, in case we needed it, on how far you can go with just a minimum amount of talent and a lot of good social connections.
