I am very glad he and his brother are doing something with their lives--going to college, doing interships, and making real plans. Good on Prince William for planning to go into environmental studies. The world could always use a few more charismatic activists.
He was actually taking art history during his first year... :brows:

The tale of a pretty young Australian whose dream beau turned out to be a real-life prince seems perfect for a Hollywood movie. And now those following the romance of Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and his Tasmanian-born fiancée Mary Donaldson can have the next best thing.

Frederik's romance with the PR professional, who he will wed this May, is told in a two-hour documentary which has just been released on both video and DVD. The film, entitled Mary, Frederik And The Monarchy, features first-person accounts, including interviews with the young couple, as well as family, friends and colleagues.

Also included in the video, priced at 200 kroner or 27 euros, is an inside look at the royal palace, with Queen Margrethe personally providing information on traditions and ceremonies of the court.

Boisterous and at times rebellious as a child, Prince William has matured into a studious and sensitive young man. Born on June 21, 1982, Prince William Arthur Philip Louis Windsor is the eldest son of Diana, Princess of Wales and Charles, Prince of Wales. From an early age he was already breaking with tradition. The fact that his mother gave birth in London's St Mary's Hospital made him the first crown prince not to be born at the palace and, unlike his father and paternal grandmother, who had private tutors, he attended nursery school.

In 1995, after spells at Wetherby prep school in Kensington and Ludgrove, he became the first future monarch to attend Eton College, one of Britain's most prestigious secondary schools. There he excelled at sports - particularly swimming - and settled down to become a serious student.

His parents divorced in 1996, and the following year he showed great strength in coping with the devastating news of his mother's death in a car crash in Paris. With immense courage he insisted on walking behind Princess Diana's hearse in the funeral procession. A year later, William issued a joint statement with his younger brother, Prince Harry, asking both press and public to let the two of them get on with their lives in peace. It was a tactic which proved largely successful, and the Prince voiced his appreciation at the tenth anniversary of the Press Complaints Commission in February 2001, his first official engagement.

After graduating from Eton with 12 GCSEs and three A-levels, William decided to study art history at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. Adopting a modern approach to the monarchy, he asked to be enrolled simply as "William Wales".

Before embarking upon his studies in the autumn of 2001, William opted to take a gap year in order to travel. This included a ten-week stint doing community work in Chile, and 15 weeks studying conservation in Africa. Meanwhile, student applications skyrocketed at St Andrews, with British applications rising by 44 per cent and the number of overseas applicants doubling.

In an interview marking the start of his four years at the venerable institution, Wills insisted he planned to continue as normal a life as possible. "I just want to go to university and have fun – I want to be an ordinary student," he said, adding: "I'm only going to university. It's not like I'm getting married – though that's what it feels like sometimes."

And entering the next stage in his education wasn't all smooth sailing, with reports of the Prince changing courses or even dropping out entirely appearing in the press. Eighteen months into his studies, the Prince admitted his adjustment at St Andrews had been quite a rocky path. "It's new surroundings, new scenery and I wasn't quite sure what to expect," he said in the run-up to his 21st birthday. Feeling "a little uneasy", and unsure about whether to continue, he went home during the holidays to get some solid advice from dad. "My father was very understanding about it and realised I had the same problems he probably had... In the end we both realised – I definitely realised – that I had to come back."

During the same interview, the Prince revealed that he had settled into his student life, and wasn't thinking about the future. "I'm really just concentrating on getting through the next two years," he said. "I honestly haven't thought about what I'm going to do next."

Despite his academic commitments, the hunky royal spends a good deal of time at Windsor Castle with the Queen, who is very concerned with his upbringing and career development. Although on the whole he appears not to relish the limelight, William has acquired worldwide status as a heart-throb, vividly demonstrated during a 1998 visit to Canada when he was mobbed by hordes of teenage girls. His extraordinary appeal lies not just in his tall, elegant physique and good looks, however. He is also a well-mannered, responsible and mature young man with an acute awareness of his role as the future King.

Ever since Prince Harry was a toddler, there's been an impish side to his character that has charmed everyone around him. Born Prince Henry Charles Albert David on September 15, 1984, at St Mary's Hospital in West London, he soon came to be known as Harry, and was later dubbed 'the Happy Prince'. Aged three, he attended Mrs Jane Mynors' nursery school – as had his elder brother Prince William - and by the time he arrived at Ludgrove School in 1992, the cheeky little boy had already built up a reputation as an athlete and rider.

His mother, Princess Diana, was determined that her sons should enjoy a 'normal' lifestyle, and the three were frequently spotted at amusement parks, popping into McDonalds, and going to the cinema. Tragically, at the tender age of 12, Harry found himself deprived of a mother who had lived her life around her sons; like his brother William, he showed great bravery in the face of devastating circumstances.

In the months immediately following his mother's death, Harry shied away from public life, but in October 1997 he accompanied his father on an eight-day tour of South Africa. Father and son attended a charity concert given by the Spice Girls and Harry met Nelson Mandela, the then president of South Africa.

In September 1998, a year after their mother's death, the Princes jointly issued a statement asking both press and public to let Diana rest in peace, and to allow them to carry on with their lives away from the fierce glare of public scrutiny.

Harry, although thought to be not as academically gifted as his brother William, earned a place at Eton in 1998 and became instantly popular with his fellow students. He soon settled into the school's routine, finding a variety of outlets for his academic, sporting and creative talents. A daredevil sportsman who loves abseiling, football and skiing, he has a reputation for being 'one of the lads', unlike his more serious brother, to whom he is very close.

Fun-loving and fearless, Harry shows every sign of enjoying his second-son status to the full. The cameras which used to intimidate his brother hold no fears for him, and it was reported that when an adolescent William expressed concern over his future role as king, Harry boldly admitted: "I'd love it!"

Josefine, didn't you used to run the royal site, LTR? If so, what happened to it? For some reason people cannot log on to it anymore (that's what they are saying at Royal Blue HQ.)

Take care
