vogue.com.auAustralian-raised model Ruby Jean Wilson talks about her breakthrough year.
Marc Jacobs placed her in pole position for the spring/summer ’13 shows, and Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs campaigns (photographed by Steven Meisel and Juergen Teller respectively) now take pride of place in her portfolio: Ruby Jean Wilson is on her way to supermodel status – and she's making sure she has some fun in the process.
What do you love about the spring/summer ’13 shows?
This season was really fun for me, because I got to see a lot of the creative aspects of compiling a show while doing looks for Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton. I loved to watch and see the show come together and to be a part of it more intimately; that was so interesting for me.
How did it feel to open and close for Marc Jacobs this season?
It felt great! Of course, it was an honour to be in that position, and opening a show is always so exciting.
What do you love about the collection?
I've always loved Marc Jacobs collections, and I loved the block stripes and pointed-toe shoes this season. Loved the 60s vibe.
Congratulations on the Marc Jacobs campaign – we are very excited for you. You have been called Marc’s muse for the season. How do you feel about that?
Thank you, I'm so happy about it, too! The shoot was a lot of fun and it was great to be chosen for the campaign and to meet and work with Juergen Teller for the first time too. I love his work.
What did you love about the Louis Vuitton show?
The whole setup of the show was incredible, when so many people come together on a grand scale like that and pull off something so immaculately … of course I felt honoured to be a part of it. It's similar to how I felt on the carousel for the spring/summer ’12 Louis Vuitton show. The whole production is just beautiful. I loved the bright yellow Damier print and the flower motifs this season, and the use of two girls alongside each other almost as twins just worked so perfectly.
