Oh my God! can't believe I came across this thread! Dubai is like a second home,I have family there, and I'm going there straight after we finish uni for the year-I cannot wait to visit this shop-love, love, love, that top from la Petite Scalope!!

When I visited Dubai I found it to be quite conservative mainly because 96% of people in the United Arab Emirates are Muslim.

Before I left for Dubai, my travel agent told me to dress conservatively out of respect for the Muslim Emiratis. No tank tops and no clingy clothing, no mini skirts and short shorts.

Im confused

My buddy lives there and he told me that the only place where revealing clothing are acceptable was at and around the beach. Maybe because he's Muslim...I dunno

I would never go around Dubai in a mini-skirt, unfortunately, cos I'm from London and we don't get much warm weather here so it would be a perfect opportunity, but you have to respect other people's customs.

But, i do wear tank tops-no strapless tops but vest tops are fine, and i see loads of others doing the same-foreigners, expats and native Dubaians.

Shops like Sauce are mainly for Expats, who are wealty non-Dubaians living in the city, who can afford the clothes, and women who lunch-Muslim women are mainly required to wear a black veil, but when women have parties together, the veil comes off to reveal all their fashion-conscious purchases. Women mainly dress for other women in Dubai and many other Muslim areas.

And at night, youngsters go out to clubs just like we do-I can't tell you how amazed I was the first time I visited a club in Dubai and saw them dressed like normal people from the west-I even picked up a few miniskirts from a store called Babushka in one of their massive malls.

They have stores like Kookai, Zara, Mango-for a Muslim city, Dubai is seen as extremely liberal.

There is nothing wrong with anyone dressing the way they want to in Dubai, actually expats enjoy the country more than locals.

It's a tradition for locals to cover up with their veils and Abaayas (cloak) but they dress it up in a modern way with crystals on them, or cute embroidery and stuff like that, and I think they dress up so much under that and accessorize themselves amazingly with nice pieces of jewelry and stylish hand bags.

Pants can be worn under, anything could be worn under but knee length skirts aren't likely to be worn as part of the leg is exposed.

Sauce is more of a life style boutique that stocks everything from clothes to shoes to bags to candles, cups, brooches, accessories, belts, cushions, The R Clinic where you send them a picture and they frame and colour it for you in an artistic hip way... and more and more... =)

I  shopping in Dubai. I constantly stop over when flying Emirates cause you don't need a visa or anything & you can stay around 2 weeks.

Yeah I agree it's a pretty conservative country but they are pretty good towards foreigners - just protective of their own. :)

I wish S*uce would go international  I have a hard enough time getting to Canada, how the heck can I go to Dubai??
