There was Mel Gibson's The Passion of Christ. There was Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code. There was a Pope.

There was Madonna's spiritual affair. There was Kayne West's Jesus walks. There was "Jesus is my homeboy" tees.

Now, there is M+F Girbaud The Last Supper ad-campaign, Riccardo Tisci's catholic-ispired show, DSquared2 "Jesus loves even me" t-shirt, YSL Roman Church ispired clothes.

Is religion going into fashion?

hmmm sharp eye metroicon, welcome to tFS :flower:

to think how 'spirituality' was included as a major trend 'direction' somewhere few months ago.. hmmm makes me wonder, really

Sharp eyes! Dsquared basically just want to be Dolce & Gabbana, hence the cross, I reckon.

OT: I'm actually writing part of an essay about the Catholic Church right at this very moment. The Pope sent Franco a letter of congratulation in 1939 after 200,000 executions of civilians and non-combatants by the Generalissimo. Interesting.

John Galliano for his Spring/Summer '01 collection used Christ as his main inspiration

Lots of people were rosary and buddist prayer beads as assesories and fashion items for a while now, which is wrong in my opinion

Dolce and Gabbana has been using Catholic references for years

Sadly that's true, the Vatican had a good relationship with Franco dictatorship.

Are you very into the Spanish Civil War, Prince of cats? I've just noticed your signature.

There was a great article about this in a magazine pretty recently. I can't remember which one right now.. I'll try to dig it up. There was a fab pic of a Gucci-like purse but instead of the G's the logo was GOD ;) And it talked about Kaballah being oh so trendy these days..

Not my cup of tea but interesting trend.

I agree with you totally... cough cough, Britney Spears- I have a personal problem with her wearing them all over the place as of late.:yuk:

This is one trend I DEFINITELY won't be touching with a 10' pole.

If you are religious, you don't need to make a big hairy show of it, and if you are not, it is disrespectful to treat another faith's garb as a costume you don at the whim of Madame Fashion.

Bleh!

The people I have known who have been the most influenced by their religions lived it rather than wore it, aside from traditionally mandated garments like yarmulkes and muslim head scarves.

I thinks o, -- it makes sens, in thsi time I think people are looking for 'aswers' or at elast something to feel and have some faith in.

I have always been very intrested in any spirituality/religion and their asthetic and practice.
