How would you rank the high end department stores?
Which one is the place to shop, see and be seen?
Who sells the most expensive stuff?

I love Neiman's. I try to live at the Beverly Hills store. Then Barneys, then Saks, and I dont live in NYC, but I do love BG.

Barneys is #1 because they are willing to stock left-of-the-middle designers BG never would.
Saks is my 2nd favorite because they generally carry EVERYTHING and also have great staff and amazing sales.
BG is the same as Neiman Marcus (they are literally the same company). They markup everything & cater toward an older clientele. I still have made some memorable purchases at BG's.
Bloomingdales is also fabulous, especially NYC's flagship store!

And let us not forget Jeffrey, should we be in the Meatpacking District. ;D

Barney's is my favorite!
then #2 Saks
then Neimans

I don't live in NYC so I don't shop at Bergdorf's

Barneys is my favourite. They are luxury, mixed in with wit and humour, relevance, they're current, and I do believe they're strong in all fields.

Next I'd put in Bergdorf. Their high end collections are very strong and well done however I just don't feel their 5F/contemporary sections.

Saks - too messy, not well presented. I go in there and feel overwhelmed :(

I'm in NYC though so I'm not sure what NM is like.

I've only been to Barneys, but the employees were jerks. I wouldn't go back.

i forgot the name of the one opposite Central Park but they have nice service there.

I loved loved loved Barneys. but the two things i looked at coincidentally had make up stain on them... hmm...

Bergdorf?

I have to say that both Barneys and BG don't have the best customer service. It's a bit hit and miss, miss more often though :(

Bergdorf Goodman is actually owned by Neiman Marcus, and it carries the most expensive stuff of all the stores you listed. But as we all know, expensive isn't always better!

I prefer shopping at Barney's and Saks though because the sales associates aren't so snobby and stuffy!

Saks definitely has lower priced items than Neiman Marcus since they shifted their focus to the aspirational customer after 9/11. Here is a pretty good article that mentions it: http://www.cnbc.com/id/26513412/for/cnbc

depends...
online, Saks has upgraded their shoe department by leaps. Barneys has good choices most of the time too. Neimans and BG, meh.

what does "being seen" and "the best place to shop" have in common???? that's a weird criteria...

brick and mortar:
Barneys for the sheer fact that they take more risks. however, trunk shows are disorganized and pre-orders don't always pan out in the end.
Saks in NYC can be OK, and their sales are good. I like their Marni department.
Neimans is fine, I guess, and Bergforf's with its boutique set-up is a PITA.

i prefer barneys....love thier choices. I've never really been into saks or bergdorfs. Oh and they just opened a neimans where i live so i should rethink my thoughts on it. but out of all of them i love barneys.....love it! :)

Bergdorf
Barneys
Neiman
Saks

Although Neiman and Bergdorf are the same company Bergdorf is actually higher than Neiman.
