The dress Saoirse Ronan will wear to the 90th Academy Awards on Sunday night has been inspired by “the sky” and 1980s era Debbie Harry, according to her personal stylist Elizabeth Saltzman.
The celebrity stylist, who has Gwyneth Paltrow and Uma Thurman on her books, has been working with Saoirse for several years.
Asked about her inspiration for Sunday night’s look Saltzman said her and Ronan had “talking about the sky”.
“We’re still in full blown fabric and sketch mode so it hasn’t been decided,” she told regarded fashion bible W Magazine.
“It’s just been narrowed down. I can tell you that a big part of the reference is the sky.”
Obviously this doesn't make things a whole lot clearer for Ronan's style fans; is the dress velvet black and covered in iridescent stars or powder blue?
Either way, interest has been piqued.
The stylist said Ronan’s looks this award season had been inspired by “Debbie Harry from the ‘70s and ‘80s”.
Dressing Rona for the red carpet hasn’t been without its glitches - at the SAG awards Saltzman realised the original gown Saoirse intended to wear wasn’t working so opted for a pink Louis Vuitton dress.
“I had planned for a different dress we made and it wasn’t working. I flew to L.A. from London for less than six hours to make the call and it just didn’t work.
“If I don’t believe in it 100 percent, then it’s not right and I wouldn’t let Saoirse wear anything that I didn’t believe in 100 percent unless she was so sold on it that she felt amazing. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters.”
The stylist also spoke about her close relationship with the Lady Bird star.
“She’s the oldest, most wonderful soul that I’ve been fortunate enough to meet. I met her at 21 and she was far older than I was at 50 and wiser, smarter, and cooler.”
In the past few years, Ronan has grown into her style and become more adventurous.
“Now at 23, she has the confidence to try things. Her body has changed. Her attitude has changed. She’s all grown up,” Saltzman said.
Asked what has thought the key trends for this year Oscar was going to be she told W magazine; “fringe, tulle, beadwork, black and white and pink.”
