In her own words Saskia de Brauw is a ‘sensitive, worrisome, strong, observant, thinker’.
Quite the poetic story, Saskia was first scouted in a tram in Amsterdam when she was 16. After modelling for a few years she made her way to art school and her focus shifted to her studies. To the delight of fashionistas the world over Saskia recently stepped back in front of the lens and we asked her a few questions about what lies ahead…
What was your highlight of 2010? Working for Nicolas Ghesquière, Ricardo Tisci and Carine Roitfeld, they’re all very inspiring and dedicated people.
What are your hopes for 2011? That I can continue being a model and work with many more talented people. I also hope that one of my best friends, who is ill right now, will recover soon.
Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? I hope I’ll be persuing my own work and that I keep growing as an artist, hopefully I will continue my success as a model and I will be able to look back with gratitude.
You are in the amazing new Givenchy spring/summer 11 campaign, what was it like working with Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot? I’m very impressed by their meticulous care about the image and their dedication towards their work. They have a very particular process of making images and it is more than amazing that I have been able to work with them.
Who would you most like to see on the cover of i-D in 2011? There are many dead people I would love to see winking on the cover; my favorite writer Georges Perec would look great, Martin Luther King, Matisse, Louise Bourgeois, Samuel Beckett, Calder, Picasso, but one person still alive who I think would be great is the Dalai Lama.

She is doing so well. It has been a joy to see her progress from the beginning; from Reed Krakoff in New York to Balenciaga and Givenchy in Paris, subsequently starring in the latter's campaign! I cannot wait to see what she has in store for the upcoming months.
