Self-Tanner / Fake Tan Application Problems - Stains etc

I'm not familiar with the entire SKII line so I can't say.. but any exfoliating should be done prior to applying a fake tan.. so that might be what she was referring to ?

sorry i didnt clairfy my question, what i was asking whether it would affect the skin care routine...so say you apply your self tanner, then u would wash your face, use tonic, etc etc..night cream , eye cream all that...doesnt the self tanner clog the pores?

Well.. I haven't used a selftanner in ages on my face.. when I want color I use a tint.. however.. which regards to the St Tropez mousse.. with that particular texture I don't recall ever having any clogging problems with it...but I could imagine clogging with fake tans that have a more creamy texture.. just like you run the risk of clogging with a lot of other creams and lotions..

Dulcisima: I don't find that it affects any of my skincare products used after, but I just make sure that I don't use anything that exfoliates. I do use the SK-II Facial Clear Solution (the oil-free moisturizer) at times, and I find that it works as well. Anyway, I don't pile on a lot of fake tan at once - I do it twice a week, max. A little bit of colour is all I go for.

Hanne: Yup, I do use a bronzer when I don't want to smell fake tan all the time too.

Just a quick update on the application of my fake tan.
I exfoliated for a few odd days with st tropez's step 1 body polish and then i tanne my self with St Tropez Mousse.
It has came out perfect!! I used gloves to not stain my hands and im a great colour.

The only downside is that it smells .. smelling of fake tan is nasty. Once ive had a shower it should hopefully stop smelling.
I dont know if there is a perfect way to apply fake tan to hands, i think there will always be tell tale signs on peoples forehands if they use fake tan. I personally think Its the hardest part of the body to apply to.

the Clarins milk is really great for the face. i use it 2-3 times a week, it gives me a more "sunkissed" glow.

on the body i mix any bodylotion with the Creme Delicieuse 1:1, gives me light yet visible color which i can build up.

now, the palms... when i apply the tanner/lotion mix, the lotion keeps the mixture a bit more liquid. when i'm done applying to the arm, i carefully wash my palms with soap, pat my hands dry on a dark towel, then rub the back of my hand on my arms where there's still remains of the mixture. voila!

i use the more intense Clarins in summer only. especially over a natural, real tan. i look freakin tanned w/o lookin orange. needless to say, it gets rarely used

Just a thought ive had, when you take away the names and get down to the ingredients ..
are all high end fake tans the same?

I use St Tropez all the time and I worship it! I use gloves on both hands when tanning my arms and legs.. With my hands and feet I use a bit of St Tropez and a tanning moisturizer but you can use any moisturizer you like and rub it in my hands and feet so you still have a tan but its not as brown as your body.. I always use the same for my face so it sort of dilutes the tan..
The only thing is if you wash your hands alot it will fade quicker so you just have to do it again.. Just make sure you tan all of your hands because if you miss in between your fingers then it looked pretty bad.. My first couple of tans didnt work out as well but Im good at it now, practice makes perfect

i like jergens natural glow firming in medium/tan
its not expensive and doesnt turn me orange at all.
i deal with the hand issue by putting self tanner on my amrs and the backs of my hands as you normally would and then using a moist washcloth to wipe my palms and between my fingers. it works perfectly, and then the backs of your hands aren't pale.

I find the st tropez range looks really fake---ive used the mousse & as recomended on the bottle slept in it and showered the day after...and im left with this strange jaundice complexion....also it doesnt smell that nice.

I find the best to be 'fake bake airbrush'--it lasts a long time and gives a really even look---and a really nice colour.

If you want something less permanent (say for just 1 night) the rimmel 'sunshimmer' (medium matte) works really great if applied with a sponge (also works well on arms/hands (no orange palms/fingers). If you've got lighter skin try mixing it with a plain moisturizer.
