I've heard his name before, not exactly sure what he did...
it's interesting to know he was a multi-task type of artist!

Thanks for creating this thread, ilj!

What's theblitzkids.com? It doesn't work for me... :(

Sorry, fixed the address :flower:

I've got some pix comin from my pursuits of magazine happiness :D Here's one from French Elle 1975, editorial by Serge Lutens with , I think, his Dior model. Have to research her name...

He seemed very praised by the club kids of the past decades
I can see a bit of Pierrot influence in the ads he did, and a makeup style that Pat McGrath still tries to achieve very often on Dior runways...

Yes. And David Bowie, of course, Ashes to Ashes, anyone. Couple of more ads (scanned by me).

Ashes to Ashes - or the Serge Lutens tribute video

that one with the blue nose is amazing! really inspiring! very painterly -- really something different than you see these days. thanks so much for posting these.

Yeah, you're right about that. More from French Elle 1975. This make-up is spookier than usual, even

i love this, the colors and the beautiful "clown" feeling,
it's so elegant and melancholy but with that funny kind of edge.

..and I should also state a disclosure that the photo in my avatar is a shoot I styled that was partly inspired by the work of Mr. Lutens

The Shiseido ads are legendary - but I prefer is 70s work, seems to me the Shiseido ads are quite derived from the Dior ads, really.

the shiseido ads are a culmination of his vision- including makeup and art direction, composition, the posing of the model etc. so refined, simple and the eye of forced the look deeper at the picture without becoming confused. the modern B&W with minimal color is a personal preference---

yeah, I lika a bit of confusion....but his vision does seem distilled in the Shiseido ads, I can see what you mean. A great artist, always.
