Shabby chic

That article is so refreshing and well said. I've always felt like I have "better things to do with my time than a blow-dry"! We could all be a little happier and a little healthier with a more natural ideal.

If only people weren't so used to "imitating" all the time

didnt know being laid back and lazy, not owning a blow dyer, makeup, straightner or excess beauty stuff... was a style... yay for me haha

Why is Ashlee Simpson on that list? i have not seen her single public appearance without full on make-up and hair. Maybe they are calling her low-maintenance as opposed to Jessica?

Sooo, do you think this is a reality, that we are actually moving towards a more relaxed, natural kind of ideal?
I think we're progressing in that direction - it seems that there's more of a concern with skin and hair care today than with makeup, but that's just an opinion :flower:

I think that we are leaning towards a more natural look... in that, just as Tiffany said... there is more focus these days on getting great skin than having perfectly applied makeup, and also on hair care. I love a more natural look, it's always good to see the amount of people with caked-on makeup diminishing as time goes by... but to be honest, Im not really such a huge fan of not shaving. actually, let me qualify that a little bit....if you dont want to shave, more power to you, its not always a pleasant process, and I know sometimes during winter it may be a pain in the ***. but please please... dont wear skirts or shorts if you make this choice... personally I really don't want to see that!

of course, in the end people will do what they want, but thats my take on it ;)

Yey for people trying to be real. That's what it's about anyway...beauty and personal care has always been about enhancing yourself and your beauty because that's what you want to do, not to strive for intangable perfection. The stress from society(thanks to air brushing and surgery-and well people with perfect genetics) is getting a bit tired. LoL, however, I still have to agree with arksiel, hair is another story. I personally am willing to put my naturalness on the line, but hair still isn't my thing.

Some years ago (yup I´m over 30) I read a great article in Vogue UK on girls like Gwyneth Paltrow, India Hicks and other girls that said that while they´re high maintenance, they take pride in don´t letting it show too much.

They take great care of their skins and body, wear "classic" clothes, have impeccable haircuts, cleverly put makeup, but they don´t let it show too much. They manage to have fun and do what they like without letting their appearance get in their way.

I don´t think this is too related with this thread but I think this is more my thing than this althogether "raw" shabby chic.

Nowadays you see too many girls in full makeup and hair perfecly blown with jeans or sweats walking the dog or running errands, and it doesn´t look cool to me.
I think "appropiatedness" is the word, knowing how too look perfect for the ocassion meaning a red carpet or a sunday barbecue with friends. Even if you care about your appearance, and take great care of it, it´s also beautiful to be relaxed and a little messy when it is the right moment.

I wish I could post that article to you. MAybe somebody recongizes it and does for me...

Fashion altogether has moved away from glamour to natural. Hair is about letting the hair do what it wants to do- yet keeping it well conditioned and shiny- make up is more about skincare and natural beauty enhanced by a few products and depending on how you carry yourself you can pull off whatever you want. There's no shame walking around like a prom queen when you are in a pony-tail, without make up, and in boys cargo shorts.
