Modelinia Exclusive: Get to Know Sigail Currie

We spied Sigail Currie on the steps at this year’s CFDA Awards, modeling Donna Karan designs, and it was clear that model fans all over would want a few more details on Sigail. She’s walked for Vivienne Westwood, Issa, Rachel Roy, Lacoste, and Peter Som to name just a few, but we can tell this is only the beginning for the stunning Sigail.
How were you discovered?
I was discovered by Saint International, the premier modeling modeling agency in Jamaica was having a contest for girls who wanted to model…and I went and was chosen.
What was it like growing up in Jamaica?
It was good, especially looking back now, I had really good friends, and a close family. The friendship and love meant a lot then, it means even more now. I go back as often as I can. I’m not sure where I am living, but it is New York at the moment.

During your career, you’ve shot with some amazing photographers, including the legendary Steven Meisel.
Yes, and by Steven Klein and Nick Knight. It is really a great experience to work with the people that are at the top in your profession. You learn so much from those experiences, that you may never have learned otherwise.

You walked Fashion for Relief show in London - did you get to meet Naomi Campbell? Talk about an amazing experience!
It was not my first time meeting her. She does something for charity every year, and I was happy and humbled by the oportunity to do this one for Haiti. I love her. I get a great lift just by being in her company. That only happen when you are with amazing, God blessed people.

Of all the fashion shows you’ve walked in, which have been your favorite?
Hard to say. Every designer have their own style and appeal, so you might like different designers at different time in the season. It is difficult to have a favorite.​

What do you like to do in your spare time/hobbies?
I love to shop, and I love being with friends. And that other thing I love to do, well, I can’t talk about…not publicly anyway.

How would you describe your personal style?
Fashion is so fluid right now, by the time you finish saying what your favorite is, something else on the cutting edge is staring you in the face.
