It seemed that this has never been discussed?
Don't know if it's ok to post it here
Most socialites have really nice styles too, as we can see from the magzines
Maybe someone can post some pictures and give some background infos about the socialites?

most socialites... wear top designers... or vintage (ie, chanel top from 1988)... know its to hard to generalise but most socialites are up with the current runways

agree

glad to see this worthy thread reborn. take a look at any issue of w or vogue & you will see party pics of socialites. often their designer labels are even named.
there's no doubt that high profile socilites spend a lot of time & money striving to look chic via their wardrobe. but its not just a 'fashion show' of conspicuous consumption, demonstrating the economic clout to be able to afford the latest & most expensie designer garb. its also about STYLE meaning how one chooses to wear various looks & the combo of new & vintage pieces & even 'high/low' dressing although that phrase is a bit tawdry.
for some reason this topic engendered a lot of resentment [i would call it reverse snobbery] with one or two people asserting that 'socialites have no style whatsoever' and even comparing them to over-groomed poodles or somesuch nonsense.
well anyway on occasion I will refer to specific pics in w or vogue or other mags in which i think a person [socialite or other] has a nice outfit on. if the ddesigner is credited its even better. there is no shortage of examples, there have been socialites wearing designer or custom garb for centuries & its not stopping anytime soon. and another note is that celebs often borrow clothes from designers for free to wear to red carpet events. socialites often pay for the clothes themselves, which is why rich women, particularly, are the favoured clients & friends of almost every top designer. youll see them at their shows, seated in the first rows just like the most powerful editors.
obvs a designer wants celebs to wear their clothes too, its amazing publicity, but the dollar power of rich socialites must never be underestimated in understanding a labels audience & sustenence- its esseential. and so the socialites in fine rayments in party pics monthly in w & vogue.
examples soon.

i think the reason the topic had that reaction is that some people assume all socialites have great style, but being able to afford things on the runway does not mean you have a great fashion sense.

lauren davis, for example, does pr for j.mendel and i have very rarely seen her wear anything but. does that mean she has a great sense of style? imo, no...

i personally love the look of sally albemarle who shows alot of individuality in her choices:

daisy bates - daughter of lady who owns Virginia vintage boutique ( i think). Anyhow - her style

ive thought for a long time that lauren davis had a great look

whether or not her sense of style is always the most unique and forward, i dont know - but she does have a great look, to me

What classifies someone as a socialite? Is it considered a career? Like Paris Hilton?

i think traditionally a socialite's job had more to do with hosting events/fundraising, than just partying (like paris hilton)...some modern socialites do have jobs (lauren davis is head of pr for j. mendel, amanda cutter brooks is creative director for tuleh, etc), but are also very active in philanthropic efforts...some are just very well connected...

I think she has four daughters, only Patricia and Carolina Jr are involved in her business. Can you tell I love Carolina?
