Stella McCartney S/S 2020 : Amber Valletta by Johnny Dufort

Just quit with these stunt campaigns and bring back some glamour. You offer sustainable and organic clothing, but who’s going to buy it after looking at a photograph like this? Why not make sustainability glamorous and chic?

I was quite hopeful clicking on this thread, but I really should have known it'd be cringe. Why even bother hiring a big name like Amber if you're going to cover her face and give her nothing to do? Also, there are a million ways to shoot a campaign in nature (if that's the chosen theme) and create beautiful images that also relate to your brand's sustainable, Eco-conscious practices. So why does it have to be this.... washed out, Instagram filtered looking mess? And more than a little on the nose, I might add. Sustainability, glamour, and creativity aren't mutually exclusive.

They should have just gone back to the landfill.

Well, this certainly lives up to my expectations of a Stella campaign. When last have we seen something breathtaking and memorable (in a good way!) from this brand? Years, a decade ago. Will add that it's an interesting shot considering it was photographed by Dufort.

The most eco-friendly thing Stella could do at this point would be to shut down the whole operation effective immediately.

I love Stella, I love her clothes, I love buying her stuff beyond the sustainable conversation. I like her choices of models but I really don’t recognized myself in her ads...
It’s either random or just weird. She should have the level of consistency of Isabel Marant but she fails with her ads most of the time.

Yes, simple glamour! That’s what we want! She needs to get the energy she has for Chloe back!

I totally agree with you on this. I have always love her clothes and I think her designs are quite flattering and the material are really great actually. But her ads and the Stella universe feels disjointed. There's no consistency. Both of her womenswear and menswear shine when she do something more simple, glamour with touch of quirk. Her tailoring is wonderful too. I wish her add reflects that.

Wasn’t all that Chloé energy really generated by by the true talent of the team, Phoebe…???

Never expected anything remotely creative from Stella. This seems typical of her brand. Stella is as creatively clueless as she is social-politically clueless, frankly. My ex, who’s from the north-eastern coast of Canada, had his encounter with Stella once: She, of course, was with Greenpeace protesting and blocking the seal hunt of the region. However, her and her group’s failed responsibility to even ponder and facilitate any course of action that would be an alternative to a population’s livelihood— and that includes Natives that have been operating the hunt for generations, was beyond arrogance and entitlement. I’m sure Stella, with her plushest of upbringing and independent wealth, couldn’t possibly understand how people are just surviving on what they’ve only known as a means to an income, with little to no education and any opportunities to fall back on.

Rant aside (LOL), she’s a decent dressmaker at best, but she absolutely bought her HF status since her designs are rather random, with not a single memorable thing about her campaigns. And now that the newfound en vogue trend in sustainability and faux-fur/leather is in full swing, she’ll be hailed as some saviour to no end, with even more hype for her brand. So sadly for those of us who are critical of her “talent", she will likely be bigger than ever in this shallowest era of fashion.

I love her designs and the exuberance of her fashion shows, but her campaigns are always a major letdown
