no faust I agree - one can appreciate the skill or vision of a collection without having to like it as such. But I think that almost always fits within the parameters of your own taste. For example, galliano is skilled (and I can see that) but I don't see his collections as anything other than bad. Thats because its not aesthetically appealing to me. But it may be to someone else who is just as informed as I am.... I can appreciate what Raf Simons does because that fits within the spectrum of what is attractive to me. But is a Raf Simons collection objectively better than an Ann Demeulemeester one? or can we only compare a Raf collection with another Raf collection? In which case is it not still personal taste - or is it about the designer making a statement with the collection.... or moving in a new direction...bit what if its a crap statement or a bad direction.... I don't know. I tend to have a more emotive response - thats why I would be a terrible fashion critic.
...or is it just an appreciation.
