Sui He and Ai Weiwei? Interesting association...very strong cover, though!

Wow this literally came out of the blue! So glad for Sui to have such a major solo cover especially since this W's first model cover in two years.

she' really brave or naive, I hope this cover wouldn't harm her career ,if chinese government boycott her because of this , I believe that'll absolutely make her disappear from public, I can't imagine a chinese model survive in this industry if she loses hometown market

New York Times
In an unusual collaboration with W magazine, Mr. Ai created a story line for a series of photos that were shot on location in New York by the photographer Max Vadukul as Mr. Ai looked on, art directing via Skype on a laptop computer…
The scenes are reminiscent of photos Mr. Ai took of the Tompkins Square riots in the 1980s, when he lived in New York, which he used as inspiration for the project. They also unavoidably refer to his own confinement, which China’s government has forbidden him from discussing.

that was the first thing came to my mind when i saw this either... ...
hope she will be fine... ...

I had no idea that this could be so controversial. I hope things don't get ugly.

What a total goddess  I really hope doing that story won't have any negative consequences for her. Then again I think it's always difficult for Chinese models and actress working internationally because they do a lot of things that are considered too controversial by the Chinese. I don't remember if it was Liu Wen or someone else who said she couldn't go home to China for a while after posing nude in a shooting, I think. I really admire Sui He for doing this story, it looks amazing and I hope it at least boosts her career in the US & Europe. She deserves it ^_^

very brave project for her and I think it will definitely help her profile here (US) as well as Europe... go Sui!

Sui He (in) Model’s Raw Moments

During Milan Fashion Week, a very special girl celebrated her 22nd birthday away from home. I have deemed her to be my fashion week angel because she has been such a kind friend to me in Europe as well as helping me with personal matters. That sweet girl is Sui He!

To be honest, she is just too perfect and beautiful for words or pictures. And yet, she has quickly and spontaneously become my muse. I tend to be more fascinated with models who have unique and strange features – a girl whose beauty is not considered standard or classic. However, there will always come a girl that challenges your perspective and changes your mind. Sui’s beauty and kindness make her one-of-a-kind and an exception to me. There is just something beyond beautiful about her.

There are rare girls with a heart more beautiful than her looks; simply put, Sui is the perfect example of this. For all the kindness and sweetness that she has shown to a poor photographer in the streets who is chasing after his passion and dreams, I thank you, Sui! May all your wishes come true this year!

Sui He & Lela Wang (in) Model’s Raw Moments

P.S. Congratulations to Sui for being the first Asian model to be on the cover of W Magazine in the November 2011 issue! It has been 2 years since a model has graced the cover. Personally, I am so proud at how brave she is as a Chinese model to participate in such a controversial art collaboration! I am loving the new direction of W! Bravo! I find things more interesting, refreshing and meaningful when fashion, art, photography, politics, and social controversies meet…
