Sydonie Herrera

Another striking model that marqueemoon introduced me to a year ago. French, natural blonde with unusual green eyes, born in (?anyone know?) but she looks older (in a good way) than all current runway gals.

Although flawed she still reaches beautiful on occasion. Of particular beauty are those very light, penetrating sea-green orbs. They almost glow in some photos.

Unfortunately her career never developed. But I still hold out some hope that she might make it one day because she did do some work in the FW05 season.

Love these photos, Galviggo! I haven't seen most of them. The spread and the runway shots are particularly striking. Her eyes are really the definition of piercing.

I read that she's 22, which is odd because she looks older than 18 in the 2001 candids.

22?! I was going to peg her age as around Tasha's. In the runway pictures, from a distance, she looks early 20s. But in the closeups from Ritu Berry, she looks at least mid-20s. This is not necessarily a bad thing--I remember the days not too long ago when models were women, not girls.

The following shots are from her Ford models Europe book. She veers from one extreme to the other in them, most notably when her extremely thick lips and sometimes bulbous-tipped nose are the centers of attention. Even so, I still think her best is beautiful and I am a total sucker for her WASPY blonde iciness.

I'm left wondering why and how she could be overlooked when there are so many other big names who are, imo, much less modelesque. I really hope to see more of her--doesn't necessarily have to be runway (although that would be sweet) since she does print quite well.

I'm not surprised she's been overlooked because classic beauty isn't appreciated by the industry anymore. While it may ensure a girl some commercial success or secure her a spot in a good agency, it probably hurts her chances of becoming a big name in the long run. There are exceptions like Valentina and Anja, but they have a Slavic look that compensates for their lack of an edge (at least in the industry's eyes).

Plus I don't think most people in the industry have the subtlety to distinguish between classic beauty and bland prettiness. They would probably clump Sydonie together with trite, commonly pretty types. Anybody who isn't weird looking is basically the same to them. What I can't understand is why somebody so obviously cheap like Doutzen has had any success. Maybe people see her as being sort of campy and ironic...like she's so bad, she's good?

Sydonie has a new ad out! If I'm not mistaken she's the face of Clinique's new "Black Honey" line. I saw it passing through the makeup section of the local Dillards. I've been trying to find an image online, but to no avail.

One caveat: I'm not that great at identifying new faces especially when they're in airbrushed ad format, but I'm almost 100% sure it's her--the nose tip/thick lips combo is a dead giveaway, and the coloring is the same with those glowering Milla Jovovich eyes. In any case, she looks terrific in it. The dark berry colors with pink/purple undertones look amazing on her. Despite her fair coloring she doesn't look saturated in color; rather it complements her dramatic look. If someone has a scan or can find an online image, please post it!

Her irises are like ice fire here! Stunning! Even more penetrating than Milla Jovovich's.
