Céline Opts to Keep 2014 Resort Under Wraps

I'm intrigued. I want to see more.

Definitely her weakest resort collection, although that fur piece looks wonderful.

I see some real BIG fur coats. For summer? really?

Not bad, I like the relaxed silhouettes and she seems to be attached to them for the moment.

I don't get the secrecy though, it's not anything groundbreaking and a couple of months delay will definately not deter anyone from copying what they think it'll sell anyway.

They just missed the resort buzz for nothing.

It's funny to read the justification here in this thread vs. Tom Ford's. Whereas Tom was pretentious and delusional for trying to do the same thing, the majority of people are totally fine with Phoebe doing it.

Comical.

I have to agree with this. How is it right for some and pretentious for others ? The clothes are nothing special, actually, and I am a fan of Céline.

^Because Tom thinks that his designs are going to be copied and photographed and worn by celebrities bla bla bla. It's ok for Phoebe because high-street stores actually do copy her designs and pretty closely so she has a good reason to do this, unlike Tom.

That is where you are wrong.

Editors who shoot the clothes have seen them, and shot them. Those images will be in magazines just in time for the clothes to arrive in stores.

Buyers have placed their orders, and the clothes will arrive in stores. Rather than having seen the clothes way back in June, only to wait five months for the clothes to hit the sales floor, the images are released en masse closer to the date the clothes will be available for purchase. Much less time for the consumer to become bored with them, and considering how much new product consumers expect to be greeted with when the walk into a store, it is a smart move.

OK.

However, it isn't solely about who is going to copy the designs. See my post above, and I think it makes perfect sense; for both brands.

I hope most brand jump on the bandwagon and just keep resort and pre-fall under wrap until it hits the sales floor. I am tired of being fed with hundreds of collections every three months, regardless of the collection being brilliant or horrendous. The over exposed social media has definitely played it's part on this ridiculous roller coaster ride of having to have collection shown every short while so that the customers don't forget them. For me, by showing every single collection in public even the most prestigious brands are loosing it's exclusiveness.

Yes, perhaps you are right, but then this would apply to the shows too? The delays are similar for the clothes to arrive to the shops.

Yes, you're definitely right on that point, consumers' hunger for new merchandise is insatiable in this day and age.

I remembered a brit female designer once copied a jacket by a famous american designer...and isn't she ironic?

Without going too off topic (apologies), I don't think it is necessarily bad with the way the show system works. The issue lies in the fact that the images are readily available immediately.

I remember back in the early aughts when I would wait for the issue of Vogue US to recap all of the resort collections, and Style.com would have one or two photos max and a write up of specific brands. It was exciting back then because of the mystery, and it made the consumer look forward to visiting the shop.

Of course, times have changed, and I do think that it is practically a "necessity" to have a show and play a role in the technological aspect of things. But every little bit to keep an element of surprise can help.
