T Magazine Culture 2016 : Demna Gvasalia & Alessandro Michele by Juergen Teller

I'm getting depressed by this.

So am I!! And of course it had to be shot by Teller, his Tumblr clan will lap this up. Love what Michele is doing at Gucci, but I find his personality insufferable. There's just so much effort on that cover - from the 70's cult leader hair to the other one's tucked in shirt. I'm glad people are looking beyond Kerisng's smoke and mirrors.

Not that how they look is any indication of their talent but they look like bums imo, so that they´re representing fashion as designers is kinda depressing... maybe I´m too old for this but I want to see some flair in how designers look.

Never understood this sort of things. They are not representing anything. At most, they are representing themselves.

I can't imagine someone saying: Hmm, how could I dress so I represent fashion in a way people think fashion should be 'represented'?

What a sh*tty interview! There was nothing interesting about it. What a bunch of silly sentences... Empty talk at its worst. Soooo boring! As boring as their fashion.

Sorry for double posting, but it was too late to edit...

This cover pales in comparison with the new Arena Homme Plus by Teller. You can tell when he really cares and adds something / everything to the picture.

When he's at his best he's the most important fashion photographer of the contemporary era.... ready to be replaced? Let's see.....

the thing is that they arent inspiring anyone. Im still on tumblr (though not nearly as much as i was before graduating college and getting a job) but kids dressed like this already. If anything they are becoming inspired by the many kids online and just taking the credit.

Nothing theyre doing is new, its just with a better supply of fabrics. I think fashion has reached its peak...

Oop at me but I kind of love the Balenciaga looks on Selena and I did not enjoy those suits one bit but that shot is great. The stiffness, the simplicity, it all just works for me as does the shot of her in the look Nobis wore on the runway.

so maybe "representing" is not the right word but they´re the ones designing clothes that are worth thousand of dollars. I´d like for them to dress in a fashionable way (think Karl or Hedi) when they´re being featured in a fashion article, or at least to not look like bums (which in my opinion, they do on this cover).

This actually poses an interesting question. I mean yes we do want designers to represent themselves in a good light as they can be their best salespeople, but I think something has to be said for the designer who doesn’t dress in a manner that is fashionable or somehow linked to the clothing they create. There was a really great quote by the Rodarte sisters awhile back about this expectation, I’m paraphrasing but they describe themselves as essentially coal miners and the clothes that they make as diamonds so when they dress they choose to dress simply as opposed to making it all about their personal style. The clothes they wear aren’t what they want people to focus on it’s the clothes they’re designing.

Personally I found that idea resonant as the only thing that matters to me is the collection, the final piece of art that we are given. For all I care the designers could be dressed in smocks and sweats–it might even be better if they did. There is something to be said in some other thread as some part of another aside about the cult of personality with regards to designers and the idea of designer personal style but I’m probably not the person to say it.

That said there is something really attractive / appealing about a designer who dresses well, but I don’t know… Is it important? Should everyone be a Tom Ford/Hedi/Karl? Maybe this is another thread, I haven’t had coffee yet and I’m rambling. Are we selling clothes or are we selling a lifestyle, are we selling both?

You have to imagine me saying all this in a very psychedelic setting in order for it to make full sense but its got me thinking.
