Tatler May 2021 : Paris Hilton by Yu Tsai

I still remember when she would drop the N word casually and use to say all gays have AIDS.
And that's why I can't get on board with Paris renaissance. Yes it's nostalgic (I grew up when she was super famous) and campy and looks good, but knowing that she said that and never genuinely made amends (plus all the blind gossip about how she's not nice and fake), it's hard to simply gloss it over for a nice picture

My subscription copy of Tatler has turned up – 142 pages, no supplement. Recycled images of Audrey Hepburn provide the backdrop for a collage-style jewellery editorial. Paris Hilton is described as “the greatest IT Girl of them all” although I’m sure people in the 1920's thought the same about their celebrities. Don’t expect any depth or self-reflection from the feature – she’s still selling the character of “Paris” but with a cleaned-up look and sound, because she knows people like nostalgia. She knows what sells, she just doesn’t need to sell it as hard today.

There’s a 10 page fashion editorial, ‘Talk of the ton’ with Natasha Luwedde@Select wearing voluminous gowns, shot by Oli Kearon and styled by Sophie Pera.

This issue will not be going on sale in Thailand because there’s an article about how everyone wants the King ousted.

The throwback page is a 1992 cover of Helena Bonham Carter.

Sold! Can't wait to get my issue.

As for the cover, it's neither here nor there. Very half-baked. If you're going to do kitsch then go at it all the way or don't do it at all.

LOVE ‘Talk of the Ton’ - GORGEOUS!

I just love how one month Tatler has Carrie Symonds on the cover and then Paris Hilton the next. The cover is great, Paris looks fantastic and I too am loving this resurgence the industry is giving Paris lately. It's also a worthy mention that Tatler has a better and more coherent art direction than British Vogue! The cover lines are always done so perfectly, always easy on the eyes.

The couture story by Oli Kearon has been executed wonderfully, absolutely love the Valentino and Alexandre Vauthier shots. Gorgeous!
