How does the fashion industry feel about people with tattoos and piercings? I currently have one facial peircing and am going to get a tattoo, does that limit my chances of getting hired or getting internships? I plan on working in PR/Editorial...

I have the same question. I'm planning on getting a tattoo on my wrist as well as my inner arm. I know that tattoos are usually seen as unprofessional, but has anyone ever experienced issues with their employers due to their tattoos? Is it ok if they're hidden? I want to work in advertising/PR, & I don't want to be turned away because of them. Thanks! :flower:

I know that a lot of artists in the industry have tattoos..for instance marc jacobs and the proenza schouler designer Jack McCollough has a sleeve..many make up and hair stylist have a lot as well.I think it all depends but its getting more accepted i feel.

It really depends who you work for and what your going to be doing. Seeing your going into PR, your going to be dealing with people constantly outside of work. I can't say what will happen.

The person I work for doesn't mind if I have a tattoo, seeing no one would really see it seeing its on my wrist and I just do pattern making. So no one outside of work will see it.

I know a lot of people working for Pat mc grath and trust me they are not hire for the tatoo or piercing
They dont care they just want the best talent out there

i would think at magazines like vogue, elle, harpers bazaar, they wouldnt allow tattoos or piercings... because they're all about professionality

I dont know about editors and working indoors maybe you have to keep a more polish look
But as far as I know make up artist & hairstyist are free to have their own style

hmm.. if you want to be a designer, or stylist, or makeup artist, or whatever, i dont think it matters. i have a teacher who worked for dior before and he has full body tattoos and ear plugs so big it could fit 4 pencils, and i nvr heard that he has any problem with anything.

do you know what his job was at dior?

he was the couturier :D but i think he also help the accessories side and made prints for them. i've seen some of the things that he did.

Thank you all for your opinions, its making my decision clearer now! I think as long as long as its hidden, it won't be a big deal. ^_^

I intern in fashion and have several tattoos, all are visible. I just try to watch out for some of them because I don't ever want people to question my professionalism. I am considering getting a full sleeve done so I just keep waiting to see how people in the industry react to the ones I currently have.
