The Arcade Fire is an indie rock band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada comprising band members Win Butler, Régine Chassagne, Richard Reed Parry, William Butler, Tim Kingsbury, Sarah Neufeld, and Jeremy Gara. Their first album "Funeral" is released in September 2004.

Funeral by The Arcade Fire [amazon.com]

1. Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)
2. Neighborhood #2 (Laika)
3. Une Annee Sans Lumiere
4. Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)
5. Neighborhood #4 (7 Kettles)
6. Crown Of Love
7. Wake Up
8. Haiti
9. Rebellion (Lies)
10. The Backseat

Songs featured on their Funeral CD have also been played on runway shows like Marithé Et FRANÇOIS Girbaud Spring/Summer 2006 and Chloé Fall/Winter 2006. I think I remember reading somewhere that Narciso Rodriguez (or possibly someone else :blink:) also love them and played their songs in one of his runways shows :buzz: . (I guess that's why I started listening  )

What are your opinions on the band? (I just  them.)

Is anyone else also a fan?

Please discuss. :flower:

LOL!!! i love The Arcade Fire!!! LOL!!! they're soo KOOL!! hehehee......
my fav song is... "crown of love" LOL....

^ uh, what?

funeral is an amazing album.

i always thought we had a very well-developed thread on them.

that's strange, they're mentioned in plenty of threads.

i like them a lot, but still feel they're over-rated -- well, i'm just not sure why they've got so much attention in the popular stream when similar musicians go almost unnoticed.

laika motivates me to do things like nobody's business :P

I love love LOVE em. I saw them 2 years ago when they had just realese their album and they played in this little tinny venue. I was front row and I even got a chance to talk to the guys and tell them how great they were. One of the most amazing live band.
Do you guys know why they have not been touring? are the recording?

I  Laika & Crown of Love, too! :buzz:

They have so many great songs!

I can't even name one. :P

I thought they are quite under-rated, because no one in my region has ever heard of them. :ninja:

What are the names of the similar but underrated bands? :(

I would love to listen to them, too. ^_^

...lost their album in one of my usual archive purging trips, early 2005. never got it back, never missed it. :P

i really enjoyed it, though.

Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) is such a beautiful song... I don't know whether it's my favorite, but it's probably the one I play most often. David Bowie was my primary introduction to them, after I read that he fronted the band during a few performances. Or my reintroduction, since I'm sure I'd heard of them before the name actually stuck, but what can I say: I thought Bowie must know good music. And that's held true...

According to http://www.arcadefire.net/news/ :

"Richard and sarah are off on tour with bell orchestre in europe...

No Tour Dates Planned For 2006"

I don't know why they are not touring.

I've thought they had a thread already as well, a multiple page thread, but I'm probaly wrong as well. Hmm, well when I first saw/heard the Arcade Fire I wasnt too interested because Muchmusic(MTV Canadian equivalent) were playing their video for Neighbourhood 3 every couple of hours....and I dont give anything on that channel much of a chance.. After a month or so, I heard Rebellion and Neighbourhood 1 on my own by an off chance and thought it was great, later learning that they were the band I was avoiding on Muchmusic for the last few weeks.. :ninja:

For favourites, I'm partial to Neighbourhoods #1 #2 and especially #3, Rebellion (lies),

I can't think of any bands that sound too much like them, but Wolf Parade comes to mind, would not say they were underrated at all..but...they're from Montreal too.\

Is bell orchestre the name of a band, or is it an actual orchestre? ^_^ if it is it sounds pretty interesting!

Tunnels is such a beautiful romantic song, and so is Haiti..

Does anyone have photos of them?

I love laika..! And Crown of Love.. I guess, tortoise, that makes the two of us.

I think they're a good band, but true..a little overrated. I hope their second album will be just as good..

That sucks. The worst thing is i will never be able to see them in such a small venue. Now they will be playing at Meridian or at Numbers and those venues always has all of these restrictions. *tear*

I hope next year I can go see them. That will make my year.:flower:

the AF is back!

but i blinked and the tix to their montreal gigs sold out

What a great talent! I literally stumbled across their album a while back on the iTunes music store looking for something else, needless to same the sample was great so I bought the whole album and haven't taken it off my favs list since!

The Arcade Fire Aims High On 'Neon Bible'

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
The Arcade Fire takes it sound to new and exciting places on its slavishly anticipated new album, "Neon Bible," which, as previously reported, is due March 6 via Merge. The 11-track set was primarily recorded in a church outside the band's Montreal homebase and features contributions from Final Fantasy's Owen Pallett, Calexico's Martin Wenk and Jacob Valenzuela and Wolf Parade's Hadjii Bakara.

Three tracks have already made the rounds online: the pipe organ-drenched "Intervention" (which is available for sale via iTunes), the wobby, slowly building opener "Black Mirror" and the ominous "Black Wave/Bad Vibrations," which is initially sung by Regine Chassagne before Win Butler takes over halfway through.

Additional highlights include the sweet, solemn ballad "Ocean of Noise" ("who here among us still believes in choice / not I," Butler sings), the propulsive, major-key rockers "Keep the Car Running" and "The Well and the Lighthouse" and the hardscrabble "(Antichrist Television Blues)," where Butler's passionate phrasing recalls the Bruce Springsteen of "Born To Run."

Butler and Chassagne's vocal interplay is at the heart of "No Cars Go," another driving cut that shows clear evolution from the band's 2004 breakthrough, "Funeral." The song climaxes with a swell of choir and orchestra.

After multiple-night stands in London, Montreal and New York, the group will a month-long European tour beginning March 5 in Dublin.

Here is the track list for "Neon Bible":

"Black Mirror"
"Keep the Car Running"
"Neon Bible"
"Intervention"
"Black Wave/Bad Vibrations"
"Ocean of Noise"
"The Well and the Lighthouse"
"Antichrist Television Blues"
"Windowsill"
"No Cars Go"
"My Body Is a Cage"

I loved thier first CD. Later, I bought thier second CD and almost immedietly stuck my head in the over. And last night, I heard some of thier new stuff at a friend's. Why did they get so damn depressing?

Were they ever optimistic? :o

I think depression and disappointment is just a part of anyone's life.

It's better to express these feelings than to bottle them up, I guess.

I can't wait to get my hands on the new album! :buzz:

Thanks for posting!

I thought Funeral was their first CD? Aside of EPs of course..

I don't think they just 'got' depressing. Their lyrics have always been sad sounding, I love it...it's a contrast to the strength of the music. It's sad while being optimistic at the same time.
