THE CFDA WINNERS 2005

VERA WANG was named Womenswear Designer of the Year last night by The Council of Fashion Designers of America, beating off stiff competition from fellow nominees Marc Jacobs and Ralph Rucci. Speaking in front of a star-studded crowd at the New York Public Library, Wang told her peers: "I'm really incredibly honored. Even at my age dreams in life can really come true." And she wasn't the only person who went home happy: John Varatos picked up the Menswear Designer of the Year accolade, while Marc Jacobs was named Accessory Designer of the Year for the third time. "I don't think of accessories as being different from fashion. It's all one thing," he said afterwards. Elsewear, the Swarovski-Perry Ellis Awards for emerging talent went to Derek Lam for womenswear, Alexandre Plokhov for menswear, and Anthony Camargo and Nak Armstrong for accessories. But it wasn't just the prizes that people had flocked to see, at the fashion industry Oscars it's all about the dresses, and no one disappointed. "The dress matches me," Sarah Michelle Gellar said of her custom-designed Max Azria Atelier gown. "My husband had friends over when I was trying it on and I didn't want to take it off. I started cleaning up glasses wearing it." Kate Moss, meanwhile, wore a chic strapless corset dress to pick up her Award for Fashion Influence. "She dresses in a way that means something. What Kate wears, others wear. And it's really Kate choosing it, not a stylist," Peter Arnold, the CFDA's executive director, told the Associated Press. (June 7 2005, AM)

Ralph Lauren... :ninja:

That really is a hideous tuxedo Ralph is wearing. Did he think the ridiculous notch lapels would hide his chicken-chest? As for the dickie-bow, it's simply unspeakable. It looks like it might be ready-tied.

doesnt anna's dress clash with her daughters?, i feel i dont know were to look, the designs take away each others impact.

agree for kate moss, she looks much better in dark dramatic outfits.

True... but look at how great Linda Evangelista looks. Wow!

John

I like how Kate looks. The nude/lace minidress has that right mix of elegance and rock and roll which just screams Kate, IMO.

I think Anna looks silly. For someone who gets some of the best clothes ever made thrown at here she doesn't really wear it as well as you would think. Part of it is her silly bob, how good can you expect the clothes to look when you have that douty monstrosity hovering above?
