really like and will definitely wear that notion of an oversized coat like a coat. problem is, when i try to wear my single breasted coat like this, it tends to slip right off my shoulders. probably will need a double breasted coat for that
Seroiusly...I just don't get this trend. What's the point of wearing a coat with sleeves without actually using them? Not that I'm that much into functional fashion, but this doesn't really seem to look right to me.
so is this an extension of the last couple of seaons' wearing a coat on your shoulders?
While I love the aesthetics of this look - as soon as you add an handbag (and movement) to this look you basically have to clutch the coat to keep it from sliding from your shoulders. I don't get how these women can walk and do this because a gentle breeze is enough for a blazer/cardi/coat to feel like it's sliding from my shoulders.
^Exactly, I think it's more of an evening wear trend, coming and going from an event more so than for a long period of time, my favorite is the Pucci look on Joan. But there was a perfect casing point in what you were saying, there was a look at Altuzarra F/W 10/11 (again, on Joan) and as soon as she turned the corner one of the shoulders slid off, I think the menswear version would make anyone look like Del Boy Trotter, so it won't be something I'll be attempting any time soon.
i like it in evening wear, it's very classic actually, women used to go to night events wearint wearing capes or coats that way. i don't quite like it on men, but maybe just because these pics aren't that good!
honestly I don't think this is a trend. Wearing your winter heavy coat over your shoulders is a way to carry the coat confortably once you are inside somewhere, like a store or something. My grandfather used to do that all the time in winter.
I love the look at Michael Kors, as I agree that the over coat works better for evening wear- but when it comes to P Diddy and MK, I think it looks pretty stupid. Also it's somewhat impractical..?
i love the look as well. it exudes grace in such a way that when someone walks into the room with a coat thrown over their shoulders you sense an importance to them. the catch 22 is not looking too narcissistic but elegant instead.
