The Row Menswear F/W 2023.24 Paris

It’s so deathly monastic in the most forgettable way: the looks can easily be pulled together from any midrange brand out there. But that’s besides the point of course, since they know exactly who they’re designing for. And if nothing else, it’s so refreshing for such a plain offering of menswear to only feature— menswear. Unlike Lemaire and Sacai— where the women’s always dominate to the point the men’s are just an accent. Those brands should have just reserved their mens’ offering for digital and saved the production for the women’s showing.

I believe that most brands only do that because one side of the business is weaker than the other. Unfortunately when you put them together, we can easily see why that's the case.

While I don't mind co-ed shows if they're done well like Lemaire, but using one gender to sell the other seems like a cheap trick to me.

If I was a designer, I'd definitely prefer DvN's model of separated shows or Courrèges' model of a joint menswear/pre-collection digital followed by a womenswear physical.

It’s not really worth the pictures or media exposure. But I would like to see this stuff at Jil
Sander

The Row womenswear is amazing but the menswear is a snoozefest. You can be minimalist but don’t be boring.

These clothes emulate nothing, no emotion. You have a glance at it and then you move on.

i don't mind *monastic* or *somber* clothes but they are capable of stretching a bit and i'd like to have seen some of that here.

Are there men who wants to look like squares? Bricks? I’m confused…
The 5 buttons jacket is an abomination. No man deserved to be punished that harshly!

Do you mean the last look? Pretty sure that's a vest or sweater underneath that. Still all the more terrible. It all just blends into the one, making the model look like a Roblox character.

Walls of fabric on the body across the board really. Unflattering, even on the models.

Well, at least it is well-made. That's about it though. It is as basic as you can get.

Brioni just casted first male model last year. In their lookbook he looked rich, sophisticated and confident. Here he looks ill and uncomfortable in that boxy suit.
