The Row Resort 2023 Paris

Love it, so chic. It's a modern take on the whole Margiela for Hermes period, which I personally admire so much. Bravo!

It’s so good, not original, but so seductive. I hope Paris gives them a warm welcome, this plus Yohji is all you need to look at once ragged yet ethereal. My dream look.

This collection is Winter 2022 (not Resort 2023) based on their Instagram

The Row has been presenting a season ahead on the following cadence for the last year or so:
  • Fall = Fall Winter Collection (released during Fall Couture season)
  • Winter = Pre Spring / Resort / Cruise (released during Fall Winter season)
  • Spring = Spring Summer Collection (released during Spring Couture)
  • Summer = Pre Fall (released during Spring Summer season)

They’re using the same system as Phoebe’s Céline back in the day. If comparing it to Vogue Runway’s, and the timing of when their collections hit stores as well as the duration they stay in stores, it should be more like:
Spring = Pre Spring
Summer = Spring
Fall = Pre Fall
Winter = Fall

Pretty to look at, yes, but some looks harks back to the splendour of the late 90s. The proportions of the sleeves greatly reminded me of Spring 1998 Hussein Chalayan.

Derivative collection but strangely comforting to look at, though who really wants extra long sleeves, they are the opposite of any semblance of practicality. Glad that The Row is shaping to be some sort of palette cleanser.

I know the twins love Phoebe and Phoebe herself isn't terribly original at times but the backs of the sweaters look rather similar.

I really like this The Row collection.
My issue with the brand has always been the very « luxe-loungewear » thing and the fact that at those prices, I could have just went to Joseph. Given that I was already a Philo customer, it just felt like another NYFW designer copying…

I liked their prefall and now this. I must admit that this collection has a tension, an energy that feels more urban than previously. First of all the down coat look, fabulous…
Then they hit the climax with the look on Saskia and the two looks after. And I really love the nun-like quality of the two looks before the look on Saskia. And the last look is also perfect…

I think the photos and the clothes themselves have an ease, a romantism that reminds me of the Milanese fashion scene of the late 80’s. It’s very Prada early years with a touch of Romeo Gigli.

Still there are some mistakes, too much gimmicks and heaviness sometimes. I wish they incorporated more flou, plissés or drapés into this. But there’s an energy and an intention I love here.

Maybe it’s the effect of Paris.
This is a good PFW debut. I’m pleased.
