I'm in NY with a client who's doing some promo for their movie at them moment so last night we took the oppertunity to go to How to Succeed and see Darren Criss is the role. I've seen it with Dan too. First up let me just say Beau Bridges is awful. He fluffed lines, he 'Rex Harrisoned' his way throuh the songs, it was painful. Darren is interesting, strikes me, on stage at least, he's a actor/dancer who can sing a bit. He doesn't have a Broadway voice, it's a bit thin and it doesn't particularly carry well, even with a mic. Some vocal work could go a long way to strengthening that though. He plays Finch much more innocently than Dan ever did and that works nicely and like I said, he can dance, Brotherhood of Man was fantastic. It's a shame he's in for such a short run because I think a six month run would suit him, he needs time to bed in. I've heard on the grapevine that the producers of the show were viewing this as a trial with the idea of building another production round him so we'll have to see what happens. He's certainly packing them in, the theatre was full. I should say he's a total sweetheart though, a really lovely guy.
