The Travel Almanac Autumn/Winter 2023 : Linda Evangelista by Ethan James Green

The photographs in the editorial look ok but why all the black and white photography? Linda photographs great in color!
She probably demands it, mostly. Aside from the dual September issue, has she been shot in colour at all this year?

Ah yes, the iconique~ model who sh*ts on all all others, living and dead,... but can yet can only be photographed in extreme zoom shots OR wearing comforters.

Linda was photographed in color in American Vogue's September 2023 issue but then appeared in a lot of black and white photographs in other publications.

Just about every model of note currently working can transform beyond what Linda does *in 2023* unless one’s idea of effective transformation is coming up with new ways to hide most of your head and body in shoots.

Of course Linda is a legend for a reason, but her recent work is obviously not among her best
That part.

Covers are decent, the ed is not. Green is terrible at capturing movement. He should stick to static poses.

meisel referenced everyoneee, thats why he was great-- not only avedon of course, look at his miu miu ads, sail lieter, look at his old vogue italia stories francesca woodman, nan goldin, he referenced current events... it goes on and on

My issue is how obvious it always is. The Meisel/Linda book just came out, we all saw it. These are not sophisticated or unique references, they're the first results that come up on a Google image search of "Linda Evangelista by Steven Meisel". We've already seen these pictures of Linda.
To her credit, Linda still has some spark, but she's literally done this all before, and better.

So yes, this is all serviceable to those with nostalgia goggles on, but it's not great.

The beige Erwin Blumenfeld like shots look as if she's about to shout "moisterise me" to her subservient guards. Just a trampoline of skin with the essence of a hand.

Those newer shots are a notable ode (rehash, maybe even parody) of her Barney's ads, which were already an "ode" by Meisel. So Ethan is a parody of an ode, which is a confusing but admirable feat I will say.

Mert and Marcus were the shameless ones in copying current working photographers like Richardson etc and then one day they stopped doing this and there were left... nothing. Just like soapbubble

Now we have Luigi & Iango carrying on their copy of a copy of a copy legacy.

LOVE the entire shoot : from covers to the editorial; is there a video?

Can someone please tell me if this is a magazine or a book? European or American…? Kind thanks.

Biannual magazine, but I do believe it's printed as a hardcover publication so it sort of looks like a book.
