Sportsgirl caught up with the multi-talented Tiah to get the lowdown on WA and her hometown of Perth.
Best place to…eat: 'Harvest' in North Fremantle does an incredible brunch. Actually, they do an incredible everything, so it doesn't matter whether you're there downing fresh oysters and champagne or recovering from them the next morning with poached eggs.
Hang out: I like to just spend the day in Fremantle, wandering around the markets or sitting down on the wharfs at somewhere like Little Creatures. It's very chilled and is filled with hippies, you can do anything from get your tarot cards read to hire a pedal-powered buggy to ride around in.
Coffee: Alex at North Freo Fresh in North Fremantle does the best coffee! Actually, all the guys in there are totally hot. And well dressed- it's weird! All at this little gem on the side of the highway... they do good take away food too, but really you just wanna take away the staff.
Go out/ people watch: The city's central malls are pure entertainment. Marvel in all of society's sub-cultures from emo-kids to crazy buskers and mining magnates wives' spending up big on the platinum amex's!
Music: The world renowned boys choir at St George's Cathedral.
Get in touch with nature: The beach that is the front yard of my parents' house in Warnbro. Down a little bush track through the dunes and it's one of the most beautiful in the country. Sure there's been some shark attacks, but doesn't a little danger make everything more attractive?
If someone had only a day to spend in Perth, what one thing would you absolutely recommend they do? Check out the view from Kings Park then while away a day on the waterfront. Our state government's gone to such effort to draw crowds that if you hire a private tinted carriage on our new spiffy ferris wheel, make sure you're a bit jet-lagged and squint real hard out over the palm trees and the Swan River - you could almost swear it was the south of France.
For those who haven’t visited the WA capital, how would you describe the vibe? Lazy, sunny days, laying around, operating on your own time frame, fish and chips, ice-cream, hot young couples on picnic blankets, interspersed with pockets of anti-mainstream creative types going mad from the isolation and producing some of the best work you might never get to see.
You could live in any in the world’s fashion capitals but are based in Perth…what do you like most about the city? The fact that it's a place to disappear when you want. Come home, turn your phone off and cease to exist for a little while. Also, all my family's here on top of it obviously being very beautiful, and it's conducive to a healthy lifestyle if you so wish.
How would you describe Perth fashion? From one extreme to another. Perth is obviously a laid-back, beachy kind of place and most people put minimal effort into what they wear, bikinis, boardies, that pretty much sums up the most of it. However there are quite a few people in the know fashion-wise that are changing that, local designers building empires and almost hidden stores stocking the likes of Rick Owens, Commes des Garcons, Alexander McQueen, YSL, Givenchy, Balenciaga, the list goes on... so don't think that people don't know how to dress here, they do! They just do it without the show and pomp of the international capitals.
