Very dull. Unfortunately Barbie is one of those low art phenomenons that simply cannot be intellectualised, which is what I'm assuming the stylist tried to do here. I'm quite prepared to tolerate three more days of endless Rosco pink overkill before the movie is out.

And it sounds like Greta Gerwig is this main subject for the interview.

They should make the most of the moment before it's over, with a supernova of pink that we'll vaguely remember as defining the summer of 2023.

I'm sure there's a time and place for intellectualising Barbie, but in general, if people were genuinely interested in the philosophy behind material things, we wouldn't be living in a social media world where buying endless amounts of plastic tat is encouraged as a replacement for developing a personality.

The term "woke" seems to have evolved describing being aware of racial prejudice/injustice in society into a general term for something seemingly designed to fit DEI metrics. In this case, you have a trans Barbie, biracial LGBTQ+ Barbie, white Barbie, black Barbie, lesbian (somewhat butch?) Barbie.

Barbie has been “woke” for a lot longer than people think. I remember there were black, Hispanic, pregnant, disabled Barbies when I was a kid. None of this is new!
