I wasn't sure where to post this, but I thought I'd place it here. This kind of annoyed me, the caption labels this young model as "Naomi Cambell." Which might be a very impressive step up for her, if she actually looked anything like her. Which she doesn't, at all. Is there no other major visible African American face out there? Other than like Jasmine Warsame and Liya Kebede. Seriously, it's pretty pathetic that they see one face and there, that must be Naomi. Since there's really no one else out there, according to them...

well true.its always naomi,naomi every blk model is compared to her and they dont even look like her!! I kno gerren taylor was compared to her she dosnt look like her or move like her..the ylook NOTHING alike.on a side note: african american and african features are not really the same.Someone like Jaunel mckenzie looks african to me but shes not shes jamaican-- jamaicans are africans.I'm nigerian -american so I dont kno if i'd be considered to have "african features" i'm not sure.

with all due respect, get serious. i know absolutely nothing about fashion but i can tell you this... beauty is not only looks. in my opinion. the sophistication that a woman posseses makes her more beautiful than a owman that breezes through life on looks alone.

the traditional african women in traditional regalia posted here in the forum are truly beautiful... but definitely not cat-walk material unless they get the sophistication necessary for the international catwalks.

And I am willing to bet my last dime that it is next to impossible to take the pictured woman and train them to be capable of captivating audiences in international catwalks... unless we want to parade them as oddities and objects of curiosity. Would that be an achievement?

Tell me otherwise.

well many of the top models especially those from Africa and Eastern Europe were not scouted from a Milan tanning salon! Many of them were naive school girls working on farms or just tomboys that didnt know how to use a fork and knife but look at them now! An example being Natalia V. I believe anyone has potential to become a top model if they have the drive

Although we had previously discussed this issue in class last year, I continue to find the position of Africans in fashion rather disturbing. i know i came this this thread pretty late, but that phenonmenon basically happen to like non-Western ethnicity in the fashion industry. it is sad, but true. not too long ago, i started a thread talking about the image of Asian portrayed fashion and media industry is more like stereotyping than celebrating Asian's appearance. and the argue of having more "ethnic" (i dunno why do they consider there would be a certain look would be "ethnic")
model in the industry... why do theyeven think there is a different, like, i mean, if they dont think the so called "Caucasian Feature" is more beautiful in the first place, they dont be even whinning over it.
but anyhow, enough of my stupid ranting, they are beautilful ladies.
