Traditional and innovative designers

Would you agree that the way Alexander McQueen has used tartan in his designs is quite traditional? What other designers do you consider to be traditional and innovative, would you say that Issey Miyake is an innovative designer?
 
Do you mean a designer that takes a classic/traditional garment and creates a new approach with it?
 
oh yes,he does indeed use traditions. vivienne westwood i would say does the same. boudicca even has an approach where they take classics and traditions and creates something very new with them.

most belgian designers are synonymous for having this approach as well.
 
would you say that Issey Miyake is an innovative designer?
I think for him his work doesn't necessarily connect to a specific kind of garment but it's rather more along the lines of Japanese aesthetics. Especially if you look at Japanese history, you see connections to their traditions and changing fashions in philosophy -pottery, painting, sculpture, religion ...

And his textile designs also play a part of it, if not the form of the garment
