Travis Barker of Blink 182 & DJ AM hospitalized after plane crash

TMZ has learned Travis Barker has been burned from his waste down, but he is expected to survive the plane crash. DJ AM's face was severely burned and is being tended to right now.
We're also told the tragedy is all the worse -- Chris Baker, Travis' assistant on "Meet the Barkers," was married recently and has a new baby.

^^ I just read that :( I feel so bad for his bodyguard and assistant. I hope Travis and DJ AM can recover from this quickly and as less-painful as possible. I hope DJ AM's face can recover with not much scarring (i know) as well  we can only hope for the best.

I don't want to turn this thread even more depressing, but I think we should all be aware of what the possibilites are for Travis and Adam, despite what people are saying. Someone posted this on another forum. It's a message from a firefighter who thought it'd be best just to raise everyone's awareness concerning the situation:

As a firefighter and a music fan, I have to say that this is truly a horrible thing to hear.I wish Travis and DJ AM the speediest of recoveries...

Just to bring things into prespective for everyone, the palm of your hand is considered to be 1% of your body surface. When you hear that someone was burned 30% of their body, think 30 palms...it's a lot of surface area and it doesn't take much to add up quickly.

Generally speaking, once you start getting 50% and higher, the odds are against you for survival. It's not so much the burns that will kill you, it's the secondary infections that result from severe burns. The skin is one of the primary defences against infection and once burned, it loses that ability to protect.

In this case, where the burns are likely extensive and severe, the problem is that the body will lose a large amount of fluid quickly...as we all know, the body is made up of a lot of water (Lean muscle tissue contains about 75% water, blood contains 95% water, body fat contains 14% water and bone has 22% water)...what happens in severe burns is that it disrupts the blood circulation and causes problems with the body's salt balance.

If the reports are accurate and Travis was burned from the waist down, then his odds are good for recovery. Depending on the severity of the burns though, he still could face amputation of one (or both) legs. It's very doubtful that he will ever play drums again..and it's still possible that he may not recover though.

Unfortunately, from the sounds of it DJ AM is definitely in worse shape with burns to his face. People who have burns to their face usually also have burns to their nasal passages, windpipe and possibly lungs. Skin grafts can repair your face, but nothing can repair your windpipe and lungs from damage.'

I have a feeling that this event will bring about a monumental change in perspective for these two guys. Perhaps their lives will take a different turn and they'll finally settle down and reorganize their priorities.

amazing they survived that^^^the pics are insane....but they haven't released the percent of there body thats been burned right? I want to think positive and hope he still gets to play his drums and fully recover.

Wow this is terrible :(

RIP to those that were lost and I hope Travis and Adam can recover from this.

If Travis was burned from the waist down, why would that affect his playing the drums?

Looking at those pics, it's amazing anyone made it...

Shanna Moakler Rushes to Travis Barker's Side

people.com

Travis Barker's former mother-in-law, Gail Moakler, tells PEOPLE, "We're totally crushed," but that Shanna Moakler has rushed to be with her ex, while DJ AM's sister, Lara, and her husband, Benjamin Long, learned the news of the plane crash – in which Barker and DJ AM were badly burned and four others were killed – from a phone call from AM's mother on Saturday morning.

"We're in shock," Benjamin Long told PEOPLE. "Nobody expects something like this. We're waiting to hear more."

Moakler, whose daughter Shanna was married to Barker, tells PEOPLE, "Our heart pours out. We're hoping he recovers. The family is rallying around him and saying our prayers."

Both Barker, 32, and DJ AM (real name: Adam Michael Goldstein), 35, were taken to a burn center in Augusta, Georgia, about 75 miles southwest of the Columbia, S.C., crash site. Both are listed in critical condition.

Four others on the plane were killed: pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, Calif.; security guard Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles; and Barker's assistant Chris Baker, 26, also of Los Angeles.

Children Not Told

Upon hearing the news of the crash, "Shanna flew out this morning, and I am going to L.A. to be with the children so that she can devote time to Travis," Gail Moakler tells PEOPLE.

Former Playboy Playmate Shanna Moakler, 33, was married to Barker from 2004 until earlier this year. They have two children: son Landon, 4, and daughter Alabama, 2.

"There's still love between them," says Gail Moakler. "They may be divorced, but they're still very close. She spends a lot of time with him. Their priorities are their kids."

The youngsters have yet to be told about the incident. "We're waiting a bit to see what God brings," says their grandmother, who adds, "Shanna spoke to Travis last night. He was defiant after the accident and didn't want to be lifted in a helicopter, but rather an ambulance, so they had to knock him out."

DJ AM is a Survivor

"The whole thing is crazy," said Benjamin Long. "We're thankful that he made it. And we feel horrible about those who didn't. It's just awful."

He added that his bother-in-law is a survivor. "He flies all the time," says Long. "A lot of people know his story. He's pulled through a lot of things in the past."

The Learjet carrying six people that crashed after midnight Friday was just over one year old and chartered from Global Executive Aviation in Long Beach, Calif., according to Columbia Metropolitan Airport spokesperson Lynne Douglas,

"The crash was the result of an overrun on its flight to Van Nuys [Calif.]," says Douglas, who attended a National Transportation Safety Board press conference Saturday afternoon in Columbia. "The NTSB is gathering information and fact finding to learn what happened in this tragedy."

A statement was also issued by the Pure Management Group's vice-president of entertainment, Michael Greco. It said, "Our thoughts and prayers go out to both Adam and Travis. The PMG family is deeply saddened by the news of this unfortunate event and we wish Adam and Travis a speedy recovery and send our sincere condolences to the families who lost loved ones."

What do you mean by "settle down and reorganize their priorities?" What makes you think their priorities weren't in order in the first place?
