Trippen offers shoes that express an individuality not to be found in the traditional mass market. Shoes that when hand made, would simply be too expensive to afford. Trippen's interest lies in the constant movement towards designing innovative, thoughtful and endurable shoes. Endurable not only with regard to quality, but also within the rapidly changing face of fashion. Through unique cuts, simple forms and recognisable silhouettes, that have become like a trademark, Trippen has managed to outlive whims and trends to establish its own niche within the industry. Shoes that stand the test of time and develop into classics. Favourite shoes.

For over 10 years Angela Spieth and Michael Oehler have been making themselves familiar with everything in and around shoes. The shoemaker Michael Oehler experimented with the boundaries of traditional shoemaking, while at the same time producing customised shoes for the discerning individual and for film and theater. The designer Angela Spieth gathered her broad experience from the 4 corners of the world, working as freelance designer and advisor for many big-name shoe firms. This experience gave her the know-how to pursue her own innovative ideas.

In 1992 while pottering around an old lasts factory, the two discovered wooden soles from the Seventies.
This proved to be the inspiration that would start the adventure Trippen. The first Trippen collection was presented in a Berlin art gallery and consisted of 60 wearable and non-wearable wooden shoes. The collection was a success and the shoes were ordered by many well known designers for their catwalk shows. Since then Trippen has developed many commercial and experimental collections, such as the Closed, Cham, Cups, Sandals, Penna, Kids and Bag collections.

i really like their concept and while some of their shoe designs are a bit too 'alternative' (for lack of a better word) for my taste, they still have a few very nice things each season...

Trippen consists of two rather passionate and adventurous designers ,Angela Spieth and Michael Oehler, who decided in 1992 to conceptualise their dissatisfaction with the shoe industry and to design their desires. They are a Berlin duo who are producing the latest look in shoe manufacture and design in Berlin’s coolest district – Hackescherhofe in the newly revamped east of the city.
Trippen conceptual designs have scored a big hit with international designers such as Comme des Garcons and Yohji Yamamoto.

Trippen’s store has a chic style and a relaxed atmosphere. It reflects the designers’ philosophy of combining comfort with style. Each item is considered a work of art, incorporates clever and individual ideas in every boot, shoe or sandal.

Trippen shoes not only concern themselves with sophistication and versatility but for the well-being of your feet. Trippen’s novel and unique designs are worked on time and again until Michael and Angela are happy with the prototype.
Their signature designs are wooden bringing together traditional handcraft techniques with modern design.

One of the highlights of this season are their folded shoes. The quadratic sides of the shoe are folded back on themselves before being sewn into place. A simple lacing technique holds the tongue down and closes the shoe.
Trippen shoes are made in Berlin and Italy Michael and Angela’s ideology is to reintroduce old manufacturing methods to create up to the minute designs. The idea is to provide subtle choices for the customer.

But the key thing for every fashion aficionado is that without a cool pair of shoes you just can’t dress to impress.
Summer 1999 saw the introduction of trippen elk. The idea behind the elk collection was to create shoes that encase the foot like a loose pullover envelopes the body. The elk shoes bring with them not only a leisurely optic but superlative comfort. Once one has worn an elk shoe it is hard to want to wear anything else.

The designers had this problem as well- where to now? The answer was the development of the trippen sandals. Made of 100% elk and buffalo leather the sandals are pure luxury. With the innovative self-forming footbed they offer customised comfort. Since their introduction, the elk and sandal collections have grown with every season, becoming an established theme in the trippen collection.

2001 saw the development of the trippen cups. The idea behind the cups was to develop a shoe with a modern optic and and a new wearing sensation. The cups are designed to mirror the feeling of walking barefoot. The sole-like resilient skin; toughened on the ball and the heel, while the upper is soft and flexible. The colours are fresh and summerly. trippen's interest lies in the constant moving towards designing innovative, thoughtful and endurable footwear. Endurable not only with regard to high quality materials, but a durability within the rapidly changing face of fashion.
