UK Glamour S/S 2020 : Chrissy Teigen by Thomas Whiteside

Mayor of Twitter... that quote... good God, it screams Chrissy Teigen.
I can't take this woman seriously. Never liked her, never will. I don't like her in print either, she just doesn't have one of those naturally photogenic faces but she can look decent under certain angles.

I like the first and last cover, the colors work for me and I guess she looks nice. Middle one was a choice, cause she can't pull off expressions.

'Glamour All New' ...with the exact same nonsense... why even bother.

No, 'it's notsa you!'

The first cover is lovely, but I don't like the borders. Wonder how many hours they've spent on retouching because while the woman on these covers looks vaguely attractive, it doesn't look like her.

Also, 'Mayor of Twitter', I suppose it's only fitting that she's the spokesperson for the most toxic and vomitous social media platform right now.

I don’t mind these covers, but the magazine itself is a repetitive waste of paper with a rubbish scrapbook-type page layout.

These airbrushed celebrities who love to give out lessons about body positivity are usually people who are underemployed and who have to 'set up their own' projects in order to look successful.

If the biggest achievement you're (constantly) advertising to the world is a bare-faced selfie, it's time to find more work than the occasional judging panel/presenting gig, and putting out cookery books with recycled content.

Back in the day, this type of model would have appeared as a recurring staple in the SI Swimsuit issue (as she has) and have had a dedicated small fanclub and the occasional Vogue Australia cover running on the beach. There'd have been a solid career stretching out for years working constantly for men's magazines and for any company who needed a hot body for hire in their advertising campaigns. But ironically, the same social attitudes that have brought 'body positivity' to the fore have been the ones that did away with the popularity of this type of modelling. What does a swimsuit model do then?

It was the same question I posed in the VS thread. What's next for the VS girls? Some are already glorified influencers so they'll live, but if you don't have a beauty brand or don't get yacht invites to Cannes every summer, how will your career survive? It's easy to cross over from HF to VS, but not really vice versa. Maybe they should launch beauty lines because everyone and their mum seems to be doing them.

Back to UK Glamour, I'm quite frankly amazed that they are still in print because they're in such an awful state. you're right, the art direction, but also their house style and tone of writing seems to be aimed at the 13-18 fold. And yet the products being plugged is ridiculously expensive and out of reach to that demographic.

I love the red cover, the others were unnecessary.

I understand that the Glamour demo reader is the equivalent of Michael Kors bag-carrying and Jennifer Lopez fragrance-wearing consumer, but besides hamming it up (like a fratboi) as LL’s side side sidekick on Lip Sync Battle, what is it that she actually does that these outlet-consumer women’s rags have her on their covers on regular rotation…??
