I don't know if anyone else feels it, but to me, the cover shot itself - ignoring the fonts - almost has a 'yesteryear' feel about it. It's the shadowy fuzziness of the skin tone, like something from the 1970's.

I'd agree with that. There is a fuzzyness that gives the skin a great texturized glow (I much prefer that to overexposure or excessive smoothing personally...). The one thing that isn't 70s is Christy's facial expression, which to me signals some sort of anxiety (a feeling that hasn't been featured on any single 70s cover that I've ever seen) that I don't like too much.
