US Bazaar Febuary 2006 : Salma Hayek by Peter Lindbergh

nice. i think she is beautiful. i don't like her image before too but that was long ago. she's now grown up as you can see and i think that's fabulous!:flower:

here's the cover:

and a quote:

NEW YORK) "There are only two colors I don’t like. One is camel and the other is this one here [pointing to Domenico’s mud-hued sweater], which I call merda."
Stefano Gabbana, in the February issue of Harper’s Bazaar, on his constant use of bold color in collections

BAZAAR FEB 2006 baguci, rhoda, anja, inguna, emina, iselin, D&G, salma...

edit #1: elena baguci & hilary rhoda shot by terry tsiolis. 11 excellent pages of black & white looks, mainly day. I have been thinking about elena baguci a lot lately, she's one of my top faves for 2006 & I was very happy to see that glenda & stylist brana wolf cast her. also hilary is a new-ish american face, an angular look sort of halfway between ali macgraw & shalom: we'll see if she has the modelling personality to relate to those 2 legends. based on this work hilary is pretty good, and elena is really good. several sharp looks: best is chloe mini dress on hilary. also rochas pearl pantsuit on elena. prada coat, ysl black dress, wolf selected excellent pieces & styled them well in this studio shoot. good pics too by tsiolis, hes doing strong work month in/out in HB. good lead edit from fashion perspective & baguci is particularly notable- glad glenda is using elena & rhoda - fresh girls for 2006. rating 7.5 of 10.

edit #2 iselin shot by nathaniel goldberg in 'all-white' edit. altho the 'all-white' theme is one we've seen a lot in mags last year or 2, this is particularly good. george cortina selected excellent pieces, more formal than above story. best looks: ralph white pantsuit. rochas white suit w/ck blouse. alaia pantsuit - awesome. armani jacket. YSL jacket, D&G shirt, Val pants. iselin is so pretty. her look is superior to hilary & elena above. goldberg's garden pics are excellent, and cortina chose great looks & put them together neatly. another strong edit rating 7.8 of 10.

cover/edit #3: salma hayek by linbergh. jenny capitain edited 2 different covers & theyre the best pics here. newsstand is ralph white dress, nice 3/4 view of salma. subscription is even better, full length gucci gown in traditional lindbergh desert background. most of the time lindbergh is excellent but I dont think he added much here this month. inside its a few movie-look set pieces- old car, window blinds. editors inside are ehrlich & stanley, and other than selecting 2 nice cavalli looks, this edit is not happening. I didnt think much of salma in vogue about a year ago [was it testino?] & this is about that level- and more disappointing cos I know lindbergh can be so good. the desert/cali backgrounds are his signature but theres nothing going on here & other than 2 decent covers this actually sucks. rating 2 of 10 for the covers only.

edit #4. anja shot by anthony ward. anja had some strong HB edits in 2005 & shes at that level here. the actual quality of these pieces edited by melanie ward varies, some luxe, some less so. the actual items cant compare to the wolf & cortina edits above sartorially, but ward did style a few interest details: moschino swimsuit with drawn on buttons & pocket; LV skirt/blouse worn with paul smith necktie as belt, and anja is nude under ungaro bolero. so its an interesting edit in that way, although wards pics are a little average studio shots. but anja is electric, her status in top 10-20 girls of 05-06 is deserved & valid. pretty good edit but anja can do even better. rating 7 of 10.

edit #5: dolce & gabbana profile/history with inguna & emina, shot by greg kadel. 5 pages of D&G looks in red, black & white. theyre all good but outstanding is inguna in white pantsuit & red taffetta dress. and emina in pinstripe jacket vest & pants. both girls are outstanding here, once again bazaar is casting interesting & great girls all the time while us vogue seems to have the same 4 or 5 for a year plus. inguna was great in HB in 05 & she & emina are awesome looking here. nice D&G 2 page history feature too- some of their bombshell looks 1986-2005. not my fave label but
their impacting & sexy aesthetic is described well here & its nice that the 2006 looks on inguna & emina are some of the best illustrated. another top level edit. 7.8 of 10.

edit #6: avril lavigne by greg kadel. wow tina chai dressed avril up in 3 super luxe chanel, gucci & YSL looks. this is her best hair & make up & look ever BY FAR [i know thats not saying that much!].
rememeber when HB had nicole richie in a dressy edit in 2005 & it was really good? this is too. I like it when lindsay was in W or avril here- its unexpected & it adds a fresh surprise to HB. once again US vogue seems the more predictable as its "best dressed" yawner showed in jan. 2006. avril gets great hair & makeup here & even though Im not really a fan of hers, she looks nice in these top drawer looks & compared to her atrocious 'punk' nightmare crap from 2002, shes looks great here. wow her fiancee deryk is really a mess. no idea how to make him over, just keep him away from me! yuck! fun edit & better than youd imagine. 5.7 of 10.

new girl: michaela hlavackova in YSL. interesting new girl looks like mena suvari crossed with romina. a lot of personality & trans-continental appeal. nice goldtone pic by daniel gabbay. michaela is one to watch in 2006.

1 page; julia in DK by sean cuningham. DK black/blue look a little too 80s duran for me [think andy taylor!] but julia's chipmonk smile might be the best in the business. LOVE JULIA 4-EVER!!!!

beauty: inguna by lubomirski. outtake from resort story a month or 2 ago. this beauty closeup is better than some of the main edit shots. love inguna. alexi...dont love him.

gemma by cuningham. LOVE gemma's beauty look closeups! sweet!!!!

best ads: D&G hotness with gemma, snejana, trentini & raquel. barnyard dreams with top babes on the floor. my current fave campaign

mariacarla in YSL. outstanding have always loved m/c and still. great pictures.

mariacarla in blumarine. another dreamy fantasy cmampaign, blonde m/c great again. 6 hot pages.

mariacarla for etro. 7 pages. beautiful colors.

GOOD ADS:
maxmara with raquel, dull clothes but raquel has impact. love her.

bottega with lydia hearst shaw. prety nice Italianate interor shot.

??? ad:
missoni with drew barrymore. do I love these or hate these? I cant decide, so you tell me. looks like natalie portman's W shoot from 18 months ago. oh thats right, i hate them now...

VERDICT: I love what HB is doing in 2006. they are casting fresher & hotter girls every month, elena, rhoda, inguna, iselin, emina & michaela this time. [wheres doutz?] The fashion is totally together by wolf, cortina, capitain, and usually ward. strong images this month by tsiolis, goldberg & kadel. only disappointment was salma story by lindbergh- who can be a zillion times better- and the wards were ok- but anja rocked it. lots of strong show, fashion, news & shopping stuff too, look at the mag & youll see lots more little pics & ideas. the D&G feature was good & the avril lavigne story was fun & surprising.
This is an excellent Feb issue & I can only request more work for caroline winberg, julia, anja, mariija, jeisa, raquel, liisa winkler, louise pedersen & of course my faves, swimsuit & lingerie with those same girls. HB is doing a great job in 2006 with strong fashion & girls, and the pictures are usually at that level too. while not quite as arty as the feb W, this is a very successful bazaar, and it remains to be seen if us vogue can come up with a magazine this sleek newsy & fresh. ONE VERY STRONG THUMBS UP.

I'm so glad Bazaar keeps using Inguna. I really enjoy seeing her in editorials; there is just something about her that is so cute. And Doutzen, also, she's gorgeous, but I see they didn't use her this month. Thanks for the review

I just love this review - evertime I say I am going to pass on an issue such as this one - I read earl of grey's review and end up wanting to buy it... I usually pick up my new bazaar as soon as it's out but I have been too busy. Anyone have the Salma edit?

i'm so sick of the anja/anthony ward collaboration...it's like lisa cant/irving penn in vogue...

but the rest of this issue sounds interesting...especially the hilary rhoda ed...

thanks for the info! :flower:

Glad Avril's not on the cover... but I've always thought she had potential... I like her in designer duds when she isn't her punk self.

oh gosh, i'm just so glad they didn't put this rock girl on the cover!!!

The cover is actually Salma Hayek. Saw it this evening on the stands. Avril just has an inside story.
The cover is indeed the Heavenly Hayek:D !! as shot by Peter Lindbergh - who, given the results of the photo-shoot - doesn't like LA SALMA too much!!!
I love Salma sooo much and, while she still looks great, this cover just doesn't do her full justice!
